FiiO&JadeAudio Over-Ear Headphones Discussion & Impressions Thread

Finally I got my FT3 as well!

My first impression, sound stage is okay. I felt it being narrower than my Pionner SE-Monitor5. But this isnt really a big issue, its spacious enough.

I found the overall sound to be a little more bass incline. What I meant is, this is not booming, thumping bass. But their presence is stronger as compared to mids and highs. I felt the bass somewhat isnt properly reproduced. It doesnt really bring out the timbre of the bass tones.

I found the mids to be slightly more recessed. It is not the clearest I have heard. Vocals are okay, but I cant help but feel a certain veil over it. Guitar and piano are audible but like the bass, it sort of misses timbre of the tones. I feel unable to bring out the full characteristics of the instruments.

The highs is the weakest among the 3. It lacks a certain sparkle to it and overtones seem to drown out pretty fast. Its definitely audible but not really to the level I expected. I definitely feel like the high hat notes ended too fast.

Details retrieval is okay, nothing fantastic. It does a good enough job for its price bracket but doesn't wow me.

I spent my last 2 days with my pioneer SE-monitor5 and I guess it does affect my impression of it a little. I drive them with my Hiby r6 (2020) aka the New Hiby R6, through the 4.4mm Balanced PO. I know my take seems to be against the general consensus, but its just my opinion and YMMV!

Hope you guys enjoy your purchase! 😀
Sounds like perhaps your Hiby doesn't have quite enough power to drive these to their full potential.

Already an opposite review regarding the review just prior to this. Did the sound change dramatically after 100 hours?
Well, it is also a chain thing, EF400 is R2R with class AB amplifier, output power 4.4W per channel.. I will need a week to run them 100h and then will see what are they all about.

the meaning is not in the volume that DAP can give, the meaning is in the sound that a good stationary amplifier can give
Yes, just because something sounds loud enough, doesn't mean that they are properly powered or controlled. The sound will come across a little thin and anemic, as described in some earlier posts.

I will wait for your feedback, I'm very interested, because I also ordered FiiO FT3, but I will receive it only on May 20-25, I also have m17 with PL50
Got them and they pair excellent with M17 and PL50 as expected, good slam, good dynamics, details are excellent. I have to admit I like them even more over EF400.

While I’m not ready to write a formal review just yet (want to some 600 Series comparisons), I don’t think that these need 100 hours to burn in. I’ve got about 40+ hours in and I’ve already detected some improvements. If they continue to improve even more, they might just shake things up!

These like power, EF400 opens them up even further over M17 with PL50, great stuff, they dont sound lacking with M17 just tad better with Hifiman.

Seems to me that a large percentage of people on head-fi are used to listening to phones with a boosted or emphasized bass. When they hear a phone with a pretty much accurate bass, they usually say the bass is weak. When I read a lot of reviews about a phone having weak bass and fewer reviews saying the bass is fine, I usually want to try that phone since I am looking for an accurate or neutral bass, not an emphasized bass. Has worked well for me a number of times.

I am using enhanced overhead ear mode with linear PS on M17, but when listening over EF400 in high gain and oversampling mode, sound goes even wider plus little more impactful somehow, maybe output impendance of close to 10ohm on Hifiman is doing a trick and 50% more power on a tap too. Volume on M17 is 85/120, while on EF400 45/100.

Are the grills removable / replaceable?
Can anyone who already owns the FT3 confirm whether the outer grills (and more specifically, that plastic turbine design element) appear to be removable?
