Because this is pre-sale, not real sale. So you cannot search
No you're wrong, as I already said:

i remember back in the 90s u could get this panasonic from dixon's here in the uk for like 70 quid
Yeah but remember there was some order of magnitude of products out there back then compared to now. Many portable tape players, lots of competition, a better economy, etc. Today there are hardly any tape players available and, when you find them, they are generally not as good as what came before. But because no one makes them so parts are few and far between.

Fiio setting a price of $100 for this player is very inexpensive in today's dollars. If you use an inflation calculator and go backwards, $100 today is like $38 back in 1987 when I bought my Sony WM-16 for something like $120. That broke a long time ago and I tossed it only to eventually replace it with a similar WM-17 for $90 about 5 years ago after which I put in $120 to get it restored/repaired. $120 in 1987 is now $321 and I doubt I'd pay that for a portable tape player now!

I'm willing to bet the Fiio will be very good for $100.

I jumped on it. I have a mega large collection of mix tapes made over the last umteenth years (from the 70s onward made on high end decks in my collection) along with five broken walkmans. Super happy to have 'portable' nostalgia back in the house.

Mine arrived safely in the post this morning, complete with smart protective case. I'll check it later, when time permits, and compare it with my We Are Rewind...
Looking forward to that. Just seen a review online of that one and didn’t know it existed.

I would have bought one but I no longer have any tapes left. I used a player for a long time, a Sony, and enjoyed it so much. Now I wish I had kept some of my favorite tapes and I also had some very good metal tapes. I even had a Nach at one time. Maybe they will make more.
