[FiiO EM5] Beryllium-coated Dynamic Driver Earbuds

I was just referring to the accessories..F9 and FH1 came with balanced and single ended cables. FA9 comes only with single ended cable, they should have shipped with balanced cable and a single ended adapter.
M11 Pro did not come with even a soft case.
Hopefully the switchable jacks for EM5 is a step in the right direction. But yeah, cases should always be provided for DAPs.

$300 for something with non detachable cables is a hard pass for me. That may be a potential source of failure down the line, not to mention some of us wanna use aftermarket balanced cables or wireless adapters.

Some cheap earbuds at $20 eg BK2 can have detachable MMCX cables, but it's not only Fiio though, a lot of other TOTL earbuds still are sold today without detachable connectors/cables.
I think an issue with detachable connectors on an earbud is the added weight with MMCX sockets etc. Which can be a problem with earbuds that aren't meant to achieve a seal in your ear, which could therefore be pulled out easily. Just my 2 cents. I think they did it for a reason and I don't think it was for cost saving, considering their cheaper models have MMCX.

Care to elaborate?
Currently in honeymoon period wit them :gs1000smile: audio impressions wouldn't be accurate

but to give picture, the FiiO EM5s are like the Porsche Cayman GT4 of portable audio -- made for pure enjoyment, not made to impress with numbers, graphs, combinations of high-tech drivers, and lap times. accidentally stayed up till 2:30am last night listening to these since 10pm, only intended to listen for 5 mins....

bass and treble extension fantastic for form factor (10 Hz to 20.5 kHz audible from https://www.audiocheck.net/soundtests_headphones.php, but mids are clear to most prominent), and the mids are downright surreal

one note tho, the fit is very comfortable, but u have to make sure both earbuds r positioned correctly, otherwise imaging and perceived channel balanced won't be accurate

i hope whoever gets these enjoys them as much as i do

Do you have any other earbuds to compare them to?

K that's possible, though I own around 10 other earbuds and of those that have MMCX sockets, they do have an added weight, but it doesn't really affect the ergonomics and fitting of the buds. Earbuds can also be worn over ear too to eliminate the weight issue, or even when worn cable down, they can be adjusted such that the stem goes at another angle to offset the weight of the MMCX sockets.

I had 2 - 3 IEMs (non detachable cables) die in the past at the cable so I generally find that's a big potential source of failure down the line. It's really one awkward yank away from being a white elephant, which worries me for an expensive audio gear without detachable cables, but I guess YMMV.

Do you have any other earbuds to compare them to?

i'm mainly an IEM type guy, only have these to compare them to (U9, CL2, Mofasest Trio, ER4XR, Toneking Lucifer, XBA N3AP)

hard to compare cause of different form factor, but to give idea, on average the IEMs have better detail and imaging (by small margin, EM5 not very far behind, similar to N3AP, but not quite like ER4XR), better sub-bass presence (below 30 hz), and more ultra-high treble presence (U9 in particular here, above 17 khz this IEM still impressively audible)

special note on bass, EM5 has some effect that makes the bass kind of tangible? Maybe it is layering, idk how to describe never heard before, but bass seems to be very well "separated" if makes sense

EM5 wins without question in the mids, mids more spacious and lively, and soundstage overall is far larger vs iems.

i am interested in hearing more experience earbud users hear EM5, to see that bass enhance acoustic flute how much effect it has
