In terms of a sound quality, both EM3 and Monk will "fit" many people's taste.  In terms of the fit, as you can see from the pictures - Monk might not suite everybody due to a larger and a more generic shell.  Still worth a try, these are dirt cheap!

So the EM3 is smaller than the Monk? I would love that, the Monk was almost too big.

No, EM3 sells for $10/US, EX1 sells for $65-70/US. EX1 is a Dunu Titan 1 knockoff (done in conjunction); EM3 is an economically priced bud with inline mic. Meant as a cheap replacement for stock Smartphone buds.

Completely different class.

hmm...Sounds interesting. if its anywhere close to baldoor e100 itsa winner at its price.
 
Anyway I personally would like to do away with all the sammy/apple 3 button controls and replace with a volume control. 95% of my communication is via text anyway and none of my music listening is on a phone. inline vol control is nice though for when you need to quickly turn down because someone is yapping at you.

I gotta say the EM3 mic is superb for calls. Its perfect for skype calls, phone calls what have you. It beats the pants off my Logitech UE6000 mic and Apple EarPods by a mile and a half! And the mic controller also works with all the portable devices I have tried it with thus far.
 
I feel that the mic is an integral part of any travel friendly headphone and its overlooked by a lot of manufacturers far too often. Kudos to FiiO for including such a good mic

Yeah, I was surprised actually. I was using it for a lot of skype calls and I got a lot of comments that it sounds a lot better than my usual UE6000 or apple EarPods.
