I still can't upgrade 10 tries
Reboot your phone (I didn't have to do this but I did flip BT off and then back on), remove the BTR17 from the app, factory reset your BTR17, re-pair and keep them close while updating.

All I will say for this recent drama…

…is that I wish the BTR7 thread had been kept separate from the BTR17 thread. Different products - they should be separate threads. Whoever decided to rename this thread from the BTR7 thread to the combined BTR17/BTR7 thread did both sets of owners a disservice, IMO.

BTR17 connected via USB + power bank and on DM mode sounds very similar to the M15s to my ears.
Ive had the M15s for a while and i liked it a lot but sent it back to get a used AK sp2000. The AK was bit "better"- more vivid and clean but also bit more fatiguing with certrain iems. The M15s was very linear sounding which i appraciated after all.
I find a very similar qualities on the BTR17. Its a very linear sounding device, it doesnt exaggerate any frequency. It can sound bit blunted at first but with time i appreciate this kind of presentation as it doesnt affect the sound of the transducers.
The BTR17 when connected via USB and with DM mode ON sounds very similar to my ears.
For example the Q15 sounded bit warmer and smoother but the soundstage and separation were on a very similar level. So i would say there was a slight difference in timbre but everything else is on a similar level.
It makes the BTR17 a very attractive purchase. Sure when connected via USB and with power bank to get the DM mode it becomes way less portable than the BTR17 alone but we have this option when needed. For walks we can use it alone with BT but when we want maximum sound quality, then we can just make a sandwich and have the quality of a good dap.

These settings came with the update that came 3-4 days ago, but they were not effective. As of today, they all work.

@FiiO @FiiO Kang Fiio Control app works great with the latest update and BTR17 update. It connects quickly, applies settings quickly, and the interface works quickly. I wouldn't say it's very fast, but it's acceptably slow. Congratulations
Seem like i was late to the Party.
About the good 'ld "Phone's Signal Noises": Seem to be still a problem for countries that still having "2G/3G" and or even "4G" Bands sometime. Or the Phone's Modems, Antennas and Shielding implementation.
I rarely heard it on my BTR17, but i guess its situations to situations.
Took me 3 tries to upgrade firmware, the device would crash a couple of times and then go back to 0.51 (so it does have dual slot firmware fallback which is nice to see).
It did work eventually and I can confirm XMOS is at 1.28 as before.
Guess i was lucky then, opened the "Control" app and got greeted with the "0.62" Update, took about <10> minutes (OTA), the DAC Reset itself (Meaning wiped all the Settings, not just normally Restarted) and everything else just working. Except the "EQs" and "Compensations" as i don't use them.
- My Device was plugged in so i guess that helped?
Device's sitting on "v0.62", PC reported "v1.28".
Checked forums.fiio and bbs.fiio, nothing about the newest Firmwares yet. So no XMOS firmware at the moment.

Please exclude myself from this set, although I truly understand your reasoning. 👍

I think early Chi-Fi adopters exist for a reason and I actually enjoy reading this kind of chaos. In other words, I am confident that my BTR17 unit has not even been assembled yet. 🤭

Until then...

Yeah but there would be nothing to stop people wanting to follow conversations about both products from subscribing to both threads (if they were separate). The way it is now, it’s both or nothing.

Just got mily btr17 delivered yesterday, out of the box updated straightaway to 0.51, then in the evening i saw the 0.62 update, did another update, i think it took like 3 attempts like what happened with others here until it was confirmed succesful.

Have not used it for long listening session, only tried it to confirm its functional and all normal. Out of the box, the btr17 sound different from ka17. Its thicker, more forward, and more musical than ka17. This may change after long period of usage. All in all, its a superb device and i love it. Glad i bought the blue color too.

The 0.62 update did bring something i wanted, 120 steps of volume, and the option to activate d.mode even from only main usb in connected(like ka17). I havent tested this though. Will do today and report back.

I could have my popcorn in BTR17 thread and still get something useful in the one dedicated to BTR7.
Especially that there is BTR17 thread.
Guess FiiO rep decided that BTR7 to BTR17 is a natural evolution for the former owners and dumped BTR17 into existing thread. Too late now as this thread is a mess.

The new firmware 0.62, once updated the option will be there on the device menu. Edit: also appears on fiio control app.

Desktop mode usually can be only activated if the power usb connected(the orange port). After the update it allows d.mode activated even if only main usb(the black usb port) connected. As long as the port provide enough power.

I would bet a specific BTR7 thread would be dead by now and participants would beg for the threads to be merged. The "Unwatch" button is always one click away after all. My popcorn is always warm, though. :xf_wink:
Cheers to chaos. :beerchug:

I did the new update 0.62 and it fixed some problems including not accessing LDAC after turning it off and on, but the problem of bass distortion still persists when I increase more than 4 decibels, it is not a problem with the headphone because I did the same test with the Senn Hd 660 S2 and the HiFiman XS and the problem was the same, would it be a problem with my device? Because I don't have this problem with the Btr7, does anyone else have this problem and managed to solve it?

Probably.

I'm not bothered by teething issues as I have a ton devices, one not working perfectly is not a big deal for me.

Is that right?
Thought I have always been able to use "D.MODE" without anything connected to either USB Ports (Black - "USB", Orange - "POWER IN") just by keeping the "D.MODE" Switch in the "ON" position (I assumed it was Hard-wired and only means to send a Feedback signal to the Control ICs) while the Mode Switch is in the "BT"/"PHONE" position, it will just be "quieter" because there's no External Supply (Orange - "POWER IN") and useful to like not let the DAC sucking power off of my Phone while in "PHONE" mode connected by only the Black - "USB" Port.

Glad to see Fiio finally saw sense and updated the Desktop mode funtionality to match the KA17. I can actually consider buying the BTR17 now.

What are the remaining bugs/problems people are having?
