[FiiO BTR17/BTR7] True Lossless Bluetooth, Portable Bluetooth DAC and Headphone Amplifier BTR17 Is Officially Released!

Seems like D.MODE activates if I use the BTR17 via a single USB-C port with my S23 when using the PC mode.

Before the latest firmware update, when I switched the BTR17 to PC mode on the S23 Ultra, it gave the following warning. Currently, desktop mode has no effect only when Eq bypass is set. Other than that it seems to be working fine.

I would bet a specific BTR7 thread would be dead by now and participants would beg for the threads to be merged. The "Unwatch" button is always one click away after all. My popcorn is always warm, though. :xf_wink:
Cheers to chaos. :beerchug:
Don't get your logic. If I want BTR7 info only, whatever little new there is, why on Earth I need to know about BTR17 owners troubles? 🤷‍♂️

This makes total sense to me. The whole idea of 'phone mode' is that is doesn't draw power from the phone's battery.
Seems like D.MODE activates if I use the BTR17 via a single USB-C port with my S23 when using the PC mode, as well as when using BT mode.

It has an effect on the sound, you can turn the D.MODE switch off/on to notice it. The effect seems the same when in PC mode as when in BT mode.

Note this is not my logic. You've been in this game far more than I, and I appreciate that. But I have learned a thing or two about Chi-Fi. Enough to know that this is no longer the BRT7 thread — figuratively speaking, of course. Also, I never questioned yours or @EdgeDC's motivation on that matter. We're on the same boat after all.

Too late now as this thread is a mess.
Especially that there is BTR17 thread.

You're right on the above, but in my first year on Head-Fi, I have seen that the threads that have the most traction are the ones opened by the manufacturers. As a matter of fact, I wish moderators would be more vigilant in avoiding duplicates. But, it is what it is... 🤷‍♂️

Therefore, we should probably call FiiO out, so this does not happen again. And keep doing that in every single thread this happens. Until they learn.

NOW... FINALLY... TO THE REQUEST... :drum: :drum: :drum: :drum: :drum: :drum:

@FiiO, would you consider opening new dedicated threads for every new product launched moving forward? It is clear that the BTR7 and BTR17 are not the same product and should have benefited from keeping distinct threads. This is likely the easiest request to fulfill you will see in this forum.

Appreciate your help.

Ranting and complaining will likely not solve a thing. :v:

To conclude, allow me to quote myself:
I enjoy reading gear related threads because they are always the most toxic ones.

Cheers.

@FiiO please can you explain to me why my BTR17 has volume cap when the device is connected via USB to my phone, the Dekstop mode is ON and the EQ is ON?
I have my own EQ presets, i dont use Bypass.
Today i tried my Sundaras and the volume stops increasing after 100 (i have set 120 volume steps but have the same problem with 60 step volume setting).
Its also capped when i use power banks as an external power supply.
This problem doesnt exist when listening via BT, the volume increases significantly up to 120. This issue also doesnt occure when the EQ is OFF.
Ive done factory reset a couple times already and have upgraded to the latest firmware. In the app the volume cap is turned off (is set to max).

Cool update then whats the point of the second usb now then? I take it if the data usb is not supplying enough power you will still need the second for dmode?

Dear friend,

Hi, I failed to reproduce the issue you mentioned. Are there any other setting in your BTR17 lead to the issue? The Max volume in the menu of the BTR17 is max as well or not?

Best regards

The new Bluetooth firmware V0.62 for BTR17 is now available!

Thanks for the update!

An issue still remains, where the harmonic distortion compensation setting does not work properly. It always gets set back to 2/2 (odd/even order harmonics) after closing and opening the FiiO Control app again.

We would also need some clarification regarding the usage of the additional USB-C port. Are there two version of D.MODE now, like one using the main USB-C port, and another if you plug an additional power supply in the extra USB-C port? Are there different levels of power from using the main port vs. using both ports?

Thanks.

I think so and D.Mode doesn't work in phone mode either. We still have to power the power input in phone mode. Not every phone may provide enough power in Computer mode.

Thank you for the quick response!

Yes the volume is also set to Max in the menu. Ive tried all possible combinations and its just capped to 100 when EQ ON, via USB and DM ON.
I didnt notice this issue when listening to my iems as i dont turn the volume so high with them but with a more demanding Sundaras, especially with EQ and -5 dB on the main gain there is lack of volume after 100. On BT with DM ON, the volume increases to 120 and i can get a proper loudness.
I think it can be the hardware problem because the new firmware doesnt solve this issue.

Will, be sending the device back unfortunately.

Side-stepped back to the "Bi-Directionals Bluetooth" suggested by @sarkihalindekal, after digging through some .pdf about the "QCC5181" equipped in the "BTR17", i have to agreed with them.
Looking through my stocks, most are very good in term of Wired (DAC Chips, AMPs layout, other Gimmicks) but very outdated "Wireless": Bi-Directionals Bluetooth (which is fine, that's the norms):
- 5.0 by the 665 SoC: "TrueWireless Stereo Plus", "Aqstic"; Codecs: aptX and aptX HD;
- 5.1 by the QCC5125 SoC: "TrueWireless", "TrueWireless Stereo Plus", "Broadcast Audio"; Codecs: aptX, aptX Adaptive and aptX HD
vs
- 5.4 by the QCC5181 SoC: "TrueWireless Mirroring"; Codecs: aptX, aptX Voice, aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless.
+ Not to mention better ANC [For the Mic(s)], "Voice Assistants", Higher DSP Clock Speed all while consuming less power.
Hopefully its only a "Software Oversight" and not "Hardware Oversight" so that they can change their mind later by another Firmware Update and not a "BTR19" or something.

I don't think it's difficult from a hardware perspective, but unfortunately it will be difficult from a software perspective.

I think the BTR series or a new other series should have microSD card support like Shanling's H2, H5, H7. It is possible to control the songs from or via the phone. A wireless dac/AMP that eliminates dependency on the phone while listening to songs. Because many people find daps unreasonable or expensive compared to their hardware.
