many people are experiencing EMI noise - not me, but it should be mentioned in a review IMO.
But if the reviewer is not affected, why should they mention it? It's possible they weren't even aware of it.
I'm not affected either.
I'm just surprised that the review omitted the whole EQ function
Maybe they don't EQ?
I don't, and if I would review the BTR17 I wouldn't mention it either.

Look, I'm not discounting people's experiences and sure, this device may still have unsolved issues but if I were to review it, my review would be very subjective and I think that's absolutely fair.

But the software is clearly not achieved which negativity impact the device and make the impression it was botched and its launch was rushed.
I completely agree with your observations. The launch of the FiiO BTR17 indeed gives off the impression that the company grabbed our money and ran. As users, at least myself, we are left feeling abandoned, with minimal responses to our questions and issues. This lack of communication, combined with the failure to address software-related problems, only exacerbates the frustration. The level of incompetence shown in the development of the BTR17's software is nothing short of legendary.

That said, I must admit that for me, the device still just works—no EQ, no tweaks, nothing. Truly a masterpiece of simplicity! If only I could be as oblivious to the frustrations of others as the company seems to be.

I can't use it at the back of the phone (pixel 8a) at all, I'm guessing it's related to the wireless charging coil.
And it often picks noise when just near (10-20cm) the phone.

My BTR15 does not have this problem.

The thing is too many reviews here or elsewhere are biased or sponsored
"ideal conditions" instead of real life experience I think.

Sound like they have responded to criticism by rolling out new model. Must be some reason to recycle it so quickly.

The BTR19 is a higher end model, not a replacement for the BTR17.

You people ...

You can say the same for BTR17 not being a replacement for BTR7, but it effectively is.
They all were "high end" models at their time, until next "high end" got introduced.
Why would anyone go for BTR17 if BTR19 expected at $300 is only $90 more and is supposedly much better with hopefully shortcoming of BTR17 design addressed.

Comedy.
That's true. Many users, if they had known the BTR19 would be released a year later wouldn't have bought the BTR17.
That included me, but with the now "Industry Standards" of "Planned Obsolescence" i don't really see any problems, as long as my Employers still employing me.

Conclusion: Is the BTR17 a recommendable device? I bet it is, but it requires a certain level of skill to "exploit" it. And it doesn't work for everyone, apparently. I'm much more simple-minded: the BTR7 is the best for price and quality right now. It never fails. 👍
Yeah

Turn it on, listen to music, turn it off.

If that requires skill we as a species may be in deep trouble.

New day new bug.
With the latest iOS version of the Fiio control app it's now impossible to rename an EQ presets, to see the preamp db value and just to go back from the EQ selection page.
I had to install the android version on an old phone just to do it...

The desktop webapp is now unreliable and can completely mess up your preset if you enter an unsupported value (a Q value below 0.25 for instance).

This device is a bit like a Swiss army knife where only the main blade would open
