[FiiO BTR15/BTR5 2021/BTR5]Bluetooth DAC and Headphone Amplifier Discussion & Impressions Thread

Hey @FiiO , I’m still having issues with the shelf filters on EQ. They don’t seem to work. The issue is when I’m trying to set a LowShelf or HighShelf filter and go back to the previous screen, those filters are changed back to peak filters. Is there any updates on this issue. I contacted the support team about this 1.5 months ago.

Dear friend,

Hi, the firmware is now available.
Firmware download link: https://fiio-firmware.fiio.net/BTR15/BTR15_V3.8_trial_p.bin
Local upgrade:
1. Import the "BTR15_Vxxx.bin" firmware into the mobile phone;
2. Set the button on the side of BTR15 to the BT position and connect to Bluetooth in the phone settings. Download the Fiio Control App on your phone and connect the BTR15. On the BTR15 page, click the settings pattern in the upper right corner, find "Firmware Upgrade", find "Local Upgrade", select the firmware imported to the phone, and start upgrading the firmware.
Please note: During the firmware upgrade process, please do not leave the upgrade interface, otherwise the upgrade may fail! The upgrade may take a long time, please be patient. If the upgrade fails, you can try again.

Changes:
1. Fixed the issue where the low gain setting will change to high gain after reboot;
2. Fixed the issue where the UAC1.0 setting will change to UAC 2.0 after rebbot.

Best regards

Is the BTR5 getting any of these updates?

after fw update, mine did another 4 sudden reboots yesterday in a 10 hour session connected to fiios own BTA30pro via APTX HD running in low gain. Two of the times it rebooted into high gain and blew my ears.
threw that piece of junk into trash bin immediately and used my Shanling UP4 2022 instead. No problems. Also ordered an EarStudio ES100 MK2 yesterday, which only weighs half as much and has almost double the battery life. last fiio product for a while for me.

Hi, I too have problems with the equalizer. What you describe also happens with the BTR7 who have recently incorporated shelf filters in the latest firmware update.
One of the other bugs on BTR15 (which I also reported a while ago) is when the Q factor is set to 0.53, it doesn't configured properly and set to 0.52. If you set it to 0.52 or 0.54 it works fine, but not 0.53.
Regards!

Questions

1. Does Dual DAC mode improves Single Ended connection?
Yes, it does. But you have to force it with the Fiio Control app. Dual DAC works always in balanced mode, in single ended mode, has to be forced via the app. I think this only works wireless, wired the app will disconnect.

You don't need to use single ended. Just get a 4.4mm to 3.5mm adapter and you're all set. Sound quality will also improve in balanced mode. Low end quality improves and you get a cleaner and more powerful sound. In my case I don't even care about BT, the improvement when used wired is too good to be neglected.

Do you use BTR15 as USB DAC for your PC?

For this case, I find that phone mode sounds better than PC mode. PC mode sounds off for some reason, like there are some artifacts. Too bad phone mode will drain the battery.

I have always thought that balanced 4.4 mm to 3.5 mm adapters (male to female) were a bad thing.

Yep - from 4.4mm source to 3.5mm headphones/IEMs: bad.

But from 3.5mm source to 4.4mm headphones/IEMs: OK.

That's what I remember. In the OP it seemed like the suggestion was to connect 3.5mm headphone to adapter and use balanced jack. Maybe I misunderstood.
