Hello, thank you for your reply

So, if I will buy the BTA30 Pro and use it with my UTWS5, I will be listening at aptX = 325 kbps bitrate, while my source will be FLAC... So, a little bit higher than an mp3?

@FiiO , both of these are your devices, can you confirm? Can you also tell me if I will be able to control play/pause, volume and previous/next from the buttons on the UTWS5?
Yes, AptX connection. When connecting the UTWS5 to the BTA30Pro, it could not control play/pause or previous/next.

Best regards

@FiiO First of all, Fiio BTA30 Pro is fantastic device. I already had BTA30 and upgraded to Pro version. Loving the improved sound quality and new features.

I have a question about volume control. I use Creative BT-W3 USB C bluetooth transmitter with iPad. It sends aptX HD to Fiio BTA30 Pro. Everything works like it should but volume control doesn't work when I change volume in Apple Music/iPad. I can see volume bar changing in iPad but volume level doesn't actually change. Muting the volume to zero is only thing that works. I need to use Fiio Control app to change the volume. Apple Music/iPad volume control works normally when I use BT-W3 with B&O H95 heaphones for example. So the issue can't be BT-W3 adapter.

Could this be fixed in BTA30 Pro?

Thank you.

@FiiO
A new button function request in future firmware updates:
Ability to easily switch LDAC streaming quality using BTA30 pro button/s.
My use case is: Sitting near the PC (audio quality first) and moving around the room or next room (Connection first or Adaptive).
I currently use the app function, which can be a bit of a hassle over the course of a work day.
Thanks in advance.

I need a DAC with optical input and a 10 band equalizer or PEQ. Will the BTA30 Pro fit the bill? Is the app reliably available for this use case?

Both posts are features I'd like to see as well. Would be useful to EQ on the Pro.

Dear friend,
You are using the TX mode or RX mode?
You could click the LL/HD button to switch the Bluetooth codec in TX mode.
As for RX mode, you would need to switch the Bluetooth codec in the transmitter like mobile phone instead.
You could also turn off some Bluetooth codes for the BTA30Pro via the FiiO Control app.

Best regards

In TX mode, using LDAC codec only. Switching between: Audio quality first, Standard, Connection quality first and Adaptive.
Currently using the FiiO Control app to switch between the LDAC qualities - which requires several steps per switching.
Am hoping for a new button function that could be introduced to easily switch between the LDAC qualities.

Thanks.

Dear friend,

Thanks for the feedback. We will report to the engineer and check whether we could add this feature.

Best regards

Hi,

I've been a fan of Fiio for some time and the E10K has worked great for me for years. Because of this, I bought a BTA30 Pro when I was looking to make the switch to wireless headphones. I am using Sennheiser PXC 550-IIs and first had some crackles and pops when first using the aptX LL codec with the BTA30 Pro, but a firmware upgrade to the 1.12 version seems to have fixed those issues.

Unfortunately, even after the firmware update there seems to be a noise gate active or something that causes a “cut off” of quiet sounds. It is very noticeable when watching quite scenes in movies or during streams with quiet BGM. I’ve read that this is a power saving feature on some bluetooth transmitters, but I would not expect this to be the case for a hi-fi bluetooth transmitter.

I have plugged the BTA30 Pro into my PC via the USB cable and tried all the bluetooth codecs my headphones support, the noise gate is always there. I have also tried the Sennheiser headphones directly on my phone and connected my bluetooth Jabra headphones to my PC via a dongle to check those components and they are not the cause of the issue. As a last check, I connected the Jabra headphones instead to the BTA30 Pro and the noise gate is present here as well.

I did some research online and found a reddit thread where one user commented this:

“When using BTA30 with firmware up to version 1.1 (or BTA30 Pro with stock firmware), it will apply a noise gate on coaxial and optical inputs that mutes audio when it gets too low (e.g. quiet scenes in movies). Upgrading to the latest firmware version 1.12 beta as of the writing of this reply solves such problem.”

This scenario is a bit different as this is about just the BTA30 and my input is via USB, but it is also about the noise gate, which the firmware update unfortunately didn’t solve for me.

My question is, is @FiiO or anyone here aware of this issue and knows a fix for it? Is it a hardware issue, or is this something software could solve?

Frankly, as much as I think the sound quality is great otherwise, having the noise gate cut in and out makes the listening experience not enjoyable for me and I might have to return the BTA30 Pro if there is no fix for this.

Thanks all.

Dear friend,

I haven't got this feedback when using USB input mode. Does your issue happen when playing the sound in low volume as well? And please check whether there is other interference may cause this problem?

Best regards

Hi,

I have found this issue with all three of the following use cases:
1) Music with high dynamic range. If you keep the volume at acceptable levels for the loud partes, the very quiet parts get cut off. Increasing the volume so the quiet parts are above the noise gate threshhold works obviously, but then the loud parts are painfully loud. One of the reasons why this issue might not have come up yet is because I tend to listen to a lot of music at night when my room is completely silent and therefore I can listen to it at low volume levels, what seems to be causing the issue for the BTA30 Pro.
2) Youtube videos of people walking at night. Being able to hear the footsteps, the wind and all the other ambient noises makes those videos for me and the noise gate cuts out most of it.
3) Streams on Twitch where the streamer has the background music of the game he is playing on low volume. You can hear the BGM in the background whenever the streamer speaks, but when the streamer is silent the noise gate kicks in and there is complete silence as the BGM gets cut off.

I am certain that it is not due to other interference, as I can replicate the issue simply by adjusting the volume slider in the aforementioned youtube videos. With higher volume, the noise gate does not kick in, slightly lower volume and it is present again.

Also, I have found a way to circumvent the issue for now, but I don't really consider this a long term fix: By playing an inaudible sine wave at 10Hz at sufficient volume, I can trick the BTA30Pro to not actiate the noise gate. I tested this method first by playing the sine wave simply from another youtube video. Afterwards, I switched to a program called SoundKeeper to automate this. For anyone else with this issue that wants to try this, I have used the sine wave stream option with 10Hz frequency and 50% amplitude.

Especially because of the work around mentioned above, I am certain that it has to be due the same power saving function / noise gate a lot of other bluetooth transmitters have implemented as well. Creating "artifical volume" for a lack of better words at an inaudible frequency would not solve the issue otherwise.

The device works fine on a Windows 10 machine, operating as a USB DAC admirably as well as transmitting to Bluetooth devices.

However, for no reason I can discern, the device fails when connected to a Chrome OS desktop. Chrome OS shows the device as the selected sound target, but the FiiO device doesn't register that it's receiving sound data.

Interestingly, when set as a USB DAC, the device will output sound for a fraction of a second before cutting off and never playing sound again. Cycling through the input options and back to USB will trigger another sound fragment to play over the line out. No sound ever plays over Bluetooth TX (possibly because the connection negotiation takes longer than the sound fragment). Setting the UAC version to 1.0 doesn't change the behavior (though on Windows, setting to 1.0 produces unusably bad sound). Upgrading to firmware 1.12 - after experiencing the issue - also didn't change anything (though it wasn't expected to).

Is there a known issue here? The device doesn't seem usable for my use case if it can only work on particular operation systems instead of as a general USB DAC. I'm moving from a different USB DAC (Signstek HiFi), which was working fine across OSs including but was lower quality and lacked many of this device's features.
