So have these become like a smash hit? Are they really that good?

Yes they are quite special.
It excells at what it sets out to do.
At the end It all comes down to your preference in sound signature.

Rich bass, warm mids and sparkly highs without being particularly fatiguing.
Great detail, big soundstage, 3D stereo & imaging. Audiophile with some fun.

Lot depends on getting rights tips and a good seal.

What is main difference between these and a83? Are these better for the money or just better?

Really considering these as i was big asg2 fan, but could use a little more detail and sub bass.

Pretty much narrowed down to a73 or dunu 2000j, not in hurry to decide as i just received soundmagic e80 snd absolutely blown away at the sound quality and soundstage/imaging for $50

I don't think these can beat the organic bass of the very large DD of ASG.
Good rich bass and sub bass but texture is not equal to ASG bass.

From what I have read of 2000j, the A73 and 2000j quite different signatures so you need to figure out what you prefer.

I prefer this eq to treble booster with meelec tips

I used meelec tips on Sony xba-a2 and sound is also more spacious and more detail.

Glad I got to review the A73. The hype is real.

I was completely disappointed the animated gif was removed from your review.

Was the first thing I look for on your reviews, like your unique trademark.

In other news my A73 arrived today.

I've already heard A73 though. I played a huge trick on everyone. I had my own A73 sample coming but let DJScope's tour units arrive to me anyway so I could hear them first. Sometimes you just need to be Gangsta.

But, here it is, fresh from China.

Haha. This was just an unboxing gif. Not a 360 view. That takes a lot of time to get right, and the 7 day tour period was spent listening.

Sneaky! Didn't know you had another sample coming in. Looking forward to your review.

Animated gif or not, nice review!

Thanks!

I've been sporadic on head-fi lately, so excuse me if I should have clued into your gansta moves!

Anyway, as long as you haven't posted any review about them yet, then I haven't missed anything toooo important.

And as long as your review about them isn't tooooo positive, then my A73 resistance can possibly continue lol

The last few months I've really been getting into Muddy Waters - Folk Singer album (well mastered for its time).

Using Hum Pervasion and A73 I'm continually impressed at the detail in this recording. Some truly great detail retrieval for the price.

With A83 you may hear a little more detail in vocal regions, especially upper mid-range, A73 seems to use their warmth and control that emphasis.
