Got this mail 2x today. (4AM and 11AM)
Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for placing an order with us.

The shipping method you selected was overwhelmed with packages, we have therefore updated your shipping method to an alternative line (China Post). Please use the tracking number provided in your account and the following link to track your delivery: http://www.17track.net/en.

We wish you a happy start to the new year and thank you for your support.

Best regards,

Gearbest Customer Service

https://www.gearbest.com/

I don't really understand how they can update shipping method if the product has been sent out long go already?
My only outstanding orders are from 28 nov, 4 dec and 22 dec, and they all got stuck in Poland now, so not sure how they can adjust shipping method on these orders now?

Well, my ZS3 came in today (ordered 11/17), and the Left side is totally DOA.

Luckily, I only paid $2.99 for them.

I opened the Left earpiece up, and the internal driver wiring and 2-pin connector is fine (as is the stock 2-pin cable). The internal glue looks like the normal ZS3 construction.

I believe the problem is a defective 7mm driver (the most logical culprit being a bad/broken voice coil). My guess is that KZ got a whole batch of bad 7mm drivers, and some of them ended up in Left ZS3 earpieces, and other in Right ZS3 earpieces. It's also possible that there's ZS3 floating around in this batch with both drivers bad, just like there's ZS3s floating around with both drivers GOOD. It's strictly luck of the draw. The sad thing is that this could have easily been caught by KZ in QC. So that tells me that QC is either being done very poorly, or not being done at all.

Therefore, buying the ZS3 at the current time (ie in the current white box) is a risk IMO. The last set of ZS3 I bought (in 05/17) were perfectly fine (although they did come in the black box however).

I'd also be suspect of ANY current KZ that utilizes the same 7mm driver as the ZS3. Luckily, there's not too many models that use 7mm drivers. EDR series is the one that I know for sure - EDSE, EDR1, EDR2, etc - but there could be other KZ models. For example, the most current ED model is the EDR2, but I am unsure if it uses the SAME 7mm driver as the ZS3 or not. It's still something to keep in mind though, as the EDR2 is a currently-manufactured model (the newest EDR2 batches come in the new white KZ box).

I linked all known cases in my post (at least the ones reported on HF to date). Including me, there is at least 12 cases reported on HF alone, all ordered on or around the same time window of a few months.

Well, pooh. I'm waiting on some ZS3s I ordered jan-4.

There's a very high chance that one side will be bad. And even if it seems OK out of the box, it will work for 1-2 weeks and then die.

If it was me, I would test it right out of the box and report any DOA to customer service immediately. And even if both sides seem to "work", I would plug it into a radio or a spare MP3 player or something and play continuous 24/7 music for at least a full week straight (2 weeks would be even better). If it survives that test, then it should be good.

If it fails in any way, please let me know (or report it on HF somehow) so I can add you to my list of defective recipients.

Go ahead and add me to the list. I paid $7.99 because I wanted them to arrive at the same time as my ES3...kind of annoying. I was going to give them to a friend but the left ear started going out after a few hours of burn in.
What are the odds of getting some kind of a refund or a replacement with something else?

I ordered a ZS3 on October 2 and one side was defective and stopped working on the second day. Fortunately I was given a refund very easily so I am not too bothered. However I am hesitant to order new ones if there is a defect issue.

Well, since this is a manufacturer's defect, refunds would be handled by the seller.

In other words, this is not just isolated to ZS3s bought from Gearbest.

Me personally? Since I bought mine from Gearbest, I'll just contact their customer support to get refund/replacement.

Be aware though that 1 HF user DID get a replacement set, which also turned out to be defective. In his case, he had difficulty with the customer service process regarding the defective replacement set. I guess at that point it's likely that the seller suspects the buyer of being dishonest and is very suspicious/resistant.

So my advice would be to get a refund or credit and use it towards something else - ES3, ZST, ZSR, ZS5, ZS6, ATE, etc. It's not like the ZS3 is the best IEM KZ offers. The other option is to just use the defective ZS3 as donor shells for a driver swap, then it doesn't matter if they are defective or not.
