It looks like mine.  I agree that the pads look cheap.  IMO, there too hard.

I've searched all over on the web, there is no evidence of a fake MDR-SA5000 in the wild.

I think you're right, my latest pair from JR.com have the newer (not as nice) pads as well, although they have better stitching than my last pair, which I returned.

Sony fakes can be very similar, a person I know and trust has been into factories in chine and Beijing, he claims and again I trust this person he claims that fakes are some times made int he same factories as the legit ones and with Sony that seems to be the case as they are VERY close resembling.

I find it highly unlikely that Sony would put such poor looking pads on SA5000's.  Seriously, how much do you think it would save them?  They are already scaled-up producing much higher quality pads, why use pieces of crap like these?  It makes no sense.

Why don't you ask these guys for their price on SA5000's?  There have already been fake HD800's from Chinese factories advertised on Alibaba in the past (you can search here for threads on this), so why not SA5000's?

Perhaps some nice Senn HD650's -- these would be a deal at the regular "$150 retail" price...

And, everybody's favorite here...

Finally, like an idiot I paid $585 for open box D7000's, when I could have had these...
