Fake ATH-ESW-9? (56K warning!)
Jan 29, 2012 at 5:51 PM Post #316 of 330
Hi all. I'm in the market for a pair of ESW9A. Can anyone suggest an "authorised legit" dealer I can purchase these from? I dont mind the full price as long as I can stay away from this counterfeit issue. I just want the best earpad style portable headphone I can find. Period.

Hi, wich sites are to be trusted for used and new esw9's? I see that amazon wearhouse deals have some cheap used esw9's - can those be trusted?

The box looks real but also means nothing.
Only sure way is to wait untill you receive them.
Take off one of the pads and look at the driver.
The coil must be a blueish color.
Thats the sure way to know 100% if it is an audio technica driver.
No fake will have blue coils.
Edit:
U got them at a steal of a price!

I have send the seller a message to ask about the esw9, here is what i received :
"hi there, thanks for doing business with me, they are 100% authentic guaranteed, they are not fake; were purchased from best buy and given like a gift. No worries about this im a very honest seller, everything what i sale is genuine, please check my feedbacks, best regards"

I never knew best buy had them?
Anyway no matter, what matters is you check the coils.

Also I doubt any fake would replicate what is considered one of the best leather ear pads Audio Technica made, with lambskin.

That is great to know.
Can you post a close up pic of just the pads?
As I recently received new ones direct from Audio Technica,
And the do not have the lambskin on top, but a softer replacement pad.
The inside is still of leather, and so does preserve the sound quality.
I am thinking the esw11pads also may be same.
Edit: I can verify they are indeed leather, but maybe not lambskin as they are softer and more supple than my old esw9 pads.

So if ESW9 coil is blue than this is a no doubt original ATH?

Or there might be some tricks still?

Highly unlikely. The ESW9s are a discontinued product, you missed out on a great price on Amazon JP for the ESW9 a while ago.
The feel of the lambskin pads and blue coil are all that's needed to tell if it's real or not
