FA-003 vs ATH-AD900 vs SRH940

And call me crazy, but have you considered Beyerdynamic DT770/DT990? If you enjoyed your Shure SRH750 (I know they broke, but well, from brief impressions) then these are much more down there alley. The AD900 are more neutral, losing some of the bass emphasis, whereas the DT770/DT990 are more bass heavy and have slightly recessed mids. The SRH750s are more like the latter. Personally I enjoyed the SRH750s, and through reading around it seems that the DT770s are the next 'step up' for me (and to compliment my Pro 750s). Just a thought :D.

I think by reviews for the 940s he meant impressions from the pre-production models

I have heard the Srh840 and I have the FA-003, I would recommend it in a heartbeat, I demoed higher end headphones like the senn's, grado's (325+) and denons, the FA's easily equalled or bettered all of them. For the price ($200 from bugden) its hard to beat for value

I'm guessing that they wouldn't be very good with hip hop but I don't listen to any so maybe you want a second opinion

I apologize for bumping a 5 month old thread, but I'd really like an answer to this question too. I'm looking at the FA-003 and SRH940 myself, and I can't say which would be better for me (music and gaming, mostly).

Heya,

The SRH940 is better. But the FA-003 is a great headphone. It's a $299 vs. $167 question. If you're on a budget, get the FA-003. If you want the best vocals, best sibilance free sound with forward mids/highs of the two, the SRH940 takes it. The FA-003 is an awesome neutral headphone for the cost though, even has great accessories (both leather & velour pads in the package, that's just awesome). They compare, but the price difference is pretty large.

Very best,

I just purchased FA-003 but it hasn't arrived and never heard one. But some reviewers here said it worth at least $600 in terms of SQ. And I trust them because they have good reputation in this forum. And some of them have occupation in sound/music department.

I haven't heard the AD900, but between FA-003 and SRH940, I would take the FA-003, because I feel that it has a more balanced sound overall. SRH940 does have considerably more detail, but sounds too tipped towards the upper frequencies lacking presence in the lows and lower mids to my ears.

If you want a Shure alternative to FA-003, I recommend SRH840 which in my opinion sounds better balanced than the SRH940, while still retaining most of the detail of the 940. I prefer the SRH840 over FA-003 for a lot of music, especially vocals. I think SRH840 has much better detail than FA-003 in the mids. FA-003 has smoother highs though, somewhat better clarity and a more neutral sound overall. SRH840 is warmer and more musical.

Isn't more detailed the same as better clarity?
