What would be the best European dac maker / model at any price?

I have currently a Meier system that I like a lot but I want to upgrade.

Thanks.

There are lots of DACs from EU manufacturers that are available from EU sources, so they don't attract extra VAT or import duty if you wish to buy from within the EU.

Yeah, but that doesn't seem to be the case with the Metrum Octave.  If you buy it within the EU you get lumped with a 19% tax.  If outside the EU, no tax but you 'may' have to pay import duty (some haven't).

Audio Aero (France) - http://www.audioaero.com/en

Icos (France) - http://www.icos-audio.com/

Metronome Technologie (France) - http://www.metronome-technologie.com/

And you can add Harmony Design from Sweden. I've not heard it unfortunately.

Thanks for this list.

I wonder how the Metrum Acoustics sound versus MHDT DAC's?

http://dhost.info/mhdtlab/

From what I've read, people seem to see them as rather opposed in their sonic signatures than really better/worse. The mhdt's are being described as warm and woolly while the metrums are seen as hyper detailed and treble tilted...

Again these are not MY impressions. I've only heard the mhdt havana for a short while but the "warm and woolly" analogy seemed to fit them well.
