Sounds like a Shanling M8 is what you're after. Tubey/warm is how I've heard it described. Never heard anyone calling the DX300 tubey.I am looking for a more 'tubey' sounding player with great sound staging properties to compliment the Hugo 2
I don't want m8 prices though you see haha thats another one that is on my radar and I frequently check for on the classifieds.Sounds like a Shanling M8 is what you're after. Tubey/warm is how I've heard it described. Never heard anyone calling the DX300 tubey.
You can probably pick one up for close to DX300 prices. In any case, if it's tubey sound you want, go for the player that'll give it to you (which I don't believe the DX300 will). Have you considered a Cayin N3 Pro (with actual tubes)?I don't want m8 prices though you see haha thats another one that is on my radar and I frequently check for on the classifieds.
Funny, I was just looking at those yesterday. It seems like a solid DAP.You can probably pick one up for close to DX300 prices. Coming from the SE200 and Hugo 2 the N3 will likely be too much of a drop in technical performance for what I'm looking for. It's not just the tube-like sound I am after but also a wide, holographic stage... something I know Ibasso's are renowned for. We are also talking relative here, I'm after a warmer sound than what I currently have in the SE200 and Hugo 2.... which, in all honesty, could encompass most DAP's on the market today. You can probably pick one up for close to DX300 prices. Be careful with Odin and dx300 combo. Upper mids will be very present.Coming from the SE200 and Hugo 2 the N3 will likely be too much of a drop in technical performance for what I'm looking for. Grab a n8. Its got tubes and should have good stage. Everything else sucks though.

Oh. Forgot that there are still daps without it lol.No streaming = no go for me.
Dx300 while i loved its synergy with LX i think Odins mids might clash. The other issue on dx300, it has is upper treble roll off. You might loose a bit of sparkle. But soundstage while not as wide as something like R8, has very good depth. Combined with its layering it should be gorgeous with it. Question is, whether ibasso will manage to squeeze tube amp into it later on.

Still sounds like an M8 would fit the bill, hope you score one.Coming from the SE200 and Hugo 2 the N3 will likely be too much of a drop in technical performance for what I'm looking for.
