Empire Ears - Discussion & Impressions (Formerly EarWerkz)

Yeah, I was aware of the comments, specifically by user klyzon - but reading that YT comment somehow creates the impression that e.g. klyzon is one of those very very very few persons on the whole planet that achieves a proper fit/seal :)

Thanks so far for all the feedback.

Haha! The "guy" that I mentioned in my previous post was @klyzon. We met up in Zeppelin & Co. last week and I heard his Odyssey for the first time. Fell in love with it and immediately after that went to AV One to purchase the last one they had!
I do believe I have achieved good seal, evidenced by the DD flex on EE iems. With regards to the 25 people unable to get a good seal comment, I'm not sure what they're expecting tbh. Might it be that they are expect to feel constant vibrations being made by the BCD? I was sure i've seen a random youtube video of EVOs vibrating on a table but I'm not so sure a constant vibration caused by the BCD is the effect EE is trying to achieve. Btw I have small ears too

I do have a good seal (I believe) and have no issues with BCDs on both EE and another competing brand of iems. Perhaps @Jack Vang can comment on how the bcd should be physically felt when you achieve a good seal/fit or if its more of a subtle enhancement to the sound (which is more of what I'm incline to believe)

I have good fit and seal. Waiting OTL for Ody.

Since meanwhile it's more than a handful of people getting hands on their "very own" Odyssey - still waiting for mine :relaxed: - I'd like to know about the 'value' of a comment/statement I found below an Odyssey YT Review:

...
"At the official presentation of these earphones by a respected headphone specialist, we were very interested with 25 people present to see how the Odyssey would do in direct comparison with the Odin and the rest of the Empire-Ear portfolio.
Well, none of us could give a verdict, because these plugs are so big and unergonomically shaped that really none of us could achieve a proper seal.
For the boneconductor, however, it is absolutely necessary to have a solid contact with the auricle, which is not possible due to the shape and size, so the bass reproduction was completely inadequate.
We all agreed that these earphones are the most expensive hi-fi blunders of the year. Sorry"
...

Just want to get a better picture about who actually is creating the 'blunder'... :L3000:

Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Yeah, this YouTuber sounds like he is trying to stir up trouble and doesn’t know what he’s talking about. The shells of EE bc items are not supposed to come into contact with the ear to transmit the bc driver vibrations. That isn’t how the weapon x works. The conduction occurs by transmission of the vibrations via the stem of the iem through the silicon tips and their contact with the ear canal. This is why EE cautions against using foam tips with EVO or Odyssey—because the foam does not transmit the vibrations appropriately.

not sure if I was hallucinating but I remember it being mentioned that narrow bore tips work the best with EE BCD as wider bore tips doesn't fully transmit the the vibrations appropriately.

Do correct me if I'm wrong on this, but from personal experience, It is indeed less satisfying when using wider bore tips with Odyssey

First Times Shielding for me. Tightens up the bass nicely for me. I hear OTL works well also.
Thanks. What's it do for treble?

Final E tips (narrow bore) are recommended for BCD.

Alright, thank you very much for the clarification how this bone conductor is working. Like such the recommendation to avoid foam tips makes perfect sense.

btw, actually it's wasn't a YouTuber stating that text, it's one person that commented below an Odyssey review published on YT (one that makes the Odyssey shine :relaxed: ). Good that this is clarified too - as he was posting exactly the same (together with an image of his "big box of all kind of ear tips" to emphasize his statements) at another "headphones" forum. To my surprise, without any objection or critical reply.

Well what are you expecting for the BCD effect? It’s not going to be skull rattling bass, get EVO or XE6 if you want that.

Yep, super important to keep these in mind expectations. The BCD is not meant for skull-rattling bass on this one.

I tried the Odyssey at canjam and found them extremely comfortable and secure, with good seal in my medium to small sized ears. I'm sure tips and one's own anatomy matter so all opinions welcomed
