Empire Ears - Discussion & Impressions (Formerly EarWerkz)

The Phantom was thicker on my Questyle daps, but on the Hiby R8, it is more spacious to my ears. I like it better than Legend X on the R8, but they are really quite different from each other. It does not extend on the high end as much as LX. The sub base of Phantom is better to me than Legend X. Phantom is more colored in the sound than Legend X.

Best to have Empire Ears send you one for trial. Phantom is one that people love or people hate. Just depends on the sound you want.
Better sub bass then LX how? Just curious what you mean.

You can see why newbs would come to the forums and get totally confused when looking to buy a high end iem... I’ve never ... ever heard anything that kicks harder in the sub bass than the LX, even the Z1R doesn’t have the same rumble in the chest / bottom of the throat quality.

I confirm with your opinion. I have an owner Z1R but it never has the sub bass level as LX

Same here. Not only does the LX get guttural with sub bass.. the quality of it is damn near perfect. The Odin has the same quality sub bass but does not punch or project sub bass with as much oomph. I have never heard anything that comes close or beats those two.

What I mean is Phantom reaches a little deeper than Legend X in the sub base region. Not to be confused with how Legend X is better with the slam and textures in its base. I just prefer the Phantom's bass on some recordings. This is why we all have our own preferences and sound is more subjective between different individuals.

Newb? I have been listening to Legend X and Phantom for a couple of years. I think I know what I prefer and I do notice Phantom goes a little deeper in the sub region even though it does not have the quantity of bass that Legend X produces. I just notice it on certain tracks.

I’ve not heard anything to date reach nearly as deep as the LX, including the phantom. To each is own though.. I can’t dispute what you hear.

I am not alone in this conclusion as I know others have come to the same conclusion. Lower on the frequency range is different than how hard an IEM hits. I have personally never heard any IEM with the bass of Legend X.

He wasn’t calling you a newb. He was just saying that it’s no wonder less-experienced audiophiles tend to get confused when they go on these forums, because of the amount of contrasting and conflicting opinions that exist here. In this case, it’s you saying the Phantom has better sub-bass than the LX, which isn’t the most common opinion.

@Deezel177 just summed this up much more eloquently than I ever could but yeah. Everyone's hearing is different I guess!

I really meant deeper sub base with Phantom. Legend X is in a class of its own. It is also why I suggest someone get a loaner Phantom as they need to trust their own ears.

A newb really needs to read multiple reviews and decide the sound they want. That is what I did with my first IEM. JH Audio Angie is the only IEM I bought without hearing it first and it was my first IEM.

I edited my post to better describe what I meant.

I know what you meant by deep. I was saying I have not heard anything go as low in the frequency range and produce audible bass as the LX. The LX, to me anyhow, projects audible and accurate bass in the 20 - 30hz region.. which if you tried to replicate in a large subwoofer, is difficult. Most subwoofers just whiff air at that frequency.

Show and Tell Thursdays with Empire eh?

@Jack Vang am curious about damaging the drivers on my Odin from drops. Been babying mine obviously, but had a couple drops around 2ft and under on to wood/particleboard desks. "happy accidents". How prone have drivers been to drops in general or is it really just a "land in the wrong spot at the wrong time". I haven't had any of my previous Empire multi BA setups and I've probably had more than few drops like that.

Should be fine IMO. I drop mine at the gym from time time and if anything the shell will give out first. If you hear anything rattling inside however definitely shoot me a PM.
