My wife is the youngest of my mom in law who is 88 years old.

Recently my wife is staying with her mom to take care expecting her mom can live just one more year or so.

Thus I am having happy life playing music loud even during midnight.

My house is seated on 2 acre lot so that my neighbors does not get bothered unless windows open wide.

My wife dropped at home yesterday ( She drop once a week to clean the messy kitchen while she is away. She is an angel Ha ha).

She happened to see my new headphone of Stax 009S headphone and asked its price.

I could tell her the real value ( new price 4,300$ and I got 4 months used one for 3,200$).

I did not mean to deceive her but answered it costs me 1,500$ by chance.

Then she had listened to K-Pop using both Stax 009S headphone driven by Carbon amplifier and Massdrop Empire Zeus IEM( I told her the real value as 1,000$ No lie here Hehe).

The source was Cocktail Audio X30 music server feeding Chord Dave and Mscaler ( I did not tell her how much Chord Dave and Mscaler cost, if she find out, I may have to buy her diamond necklace)

On first few songs, she prefer Empire Zeus IEM to Stax 009S headphone on lively sound of the former.

But after listening few more songs, she expressed that Stax 009S headphone sounds more natural than Empire Zeus IEM .

Whew if I had told her that I had spent 3200$ on headphone, I may have to go out to buy her something like expensive bag or clothing.

Reality is I had also spent additional 3300$ on KGSSHV Carbon headphone amplifier.

How many of you audiophile had lied to your wife or girlfriend about the cost of audio components?

I guess 98% from my 41 years of audio history.

My wife and I hide nothing. She knows how much I spend on audio and photography and I know how much she spends. Our rules are that it must be cash, no credit (unless paying off the card in full when the statement arrives). We also discuss purchases before spending the money. It has worked well for us. I just spend $1500 on DAPs and another $3800 on two IEMs.

what do you think is the biggest difference between the 4-wire vs the 8-wire Ares II? have you noticed a significant sound improvement? if so, could you kindly elaborate?

The 8 wires bring more details slightly and sounds better. Its hard to explain but overall the 8 wires feels like it bring more to table and is more suited if you really looking for that extra little pathe to squeeze out all the potential of the sound quality from the iem....

I own ee phantom and ares II 8 wires I always preferred the 8 wires and has intensive listening with bothe.

Dont forget the 8 wire is a real treat it looks like a snake its wide and robust. It bring lot more luxury and premium feeling to. I like it in all perspectives from sound to physical feeling.

I love the full and focus sound of the 8 wire since I have Ares II and Eros II 8wires and as @Vitaly2017 said the feel is more robust.

Not necessary. My wife also works and we have a joint account we put into 50/50 and we pay for our mortgage, utilities, vacations, savings, etc. out of that. Then we have our own individual accounts where the surplus of our paycheck goes into and we each have our own "fun money." She can buy all the craft supplies, handbags, etc. she wants and I have no idea how much it costs. Same with my headphones. Never had an argument about money in 10 years of being together.

That is exactly how we do it. Sometimes we use savings to supplement very large purchases, but we both agree on the money. We have never had an issue in 20 years of being together. You will get to 20 years too as you are doing great.

every time i get something expensive that costs more than 500$, she gets to call escort men of the same value

gotta admit , first time was tough- but we have been perfect since then

guilt-less shopping and sex with other people = happy marriage.

The 8-wire has a larger soundstage (you can hear vocals and instruments more widely spaced and discretely placed), maybe a slight bit more bass, treble is very close. It's not night and day, but it is clearly noticeable and makes me happy. My 4-wire arrived at EA last night, hope to get it back doubled within a week. It will go on my new Massdrop Zeus XlV. Hoping the PSquared plug is interesting as well. I will compare to the Zeus XR with an 8-wire/regular plug and post later. Wyville had a review of it on here a while back, try a search for it.

My wife buys what she wants, I buy what I want. But I also use common sense and don't just go crazy with audio. I've got a kid going to college in two years and grandkids who need money for summer camp. I also don't need a lot of the stuff I might like (temporally). The best thing I've learned here is when to stop. Took a while, and I'm now walking around with an AK and a Zeus, but I actually don't want for more equipment. As things wear out they'll need to be replaced, but I've been happy for two years with my setup.
