EM32, EarSonics new flagship ?

There are too many my friend, my poor student wallet can proceed slowly and one by one
happy_face1.gif
I didn't lose my interest on those but I am actually trying to figure out what kind of sound signature I will go after. Reference level flat-ish tuning or very bassy (both quantity and quality) with creamy midrange, polite treble or etc etc etc.

Do I really need both of my kidneys?

I find it curious that some people who own a certain CIEM that they really like, then seek a 'complimentary CIEM' with a substantially different sound signature.

I understand the logic, that there is little point in owning 2 CIEMs that sound almost identical, but there is also a risk with that logic that one seeks 'something different from what I already have', instead of seeking 'something I also really like'.

A compromise would be great, somewhere in the middle of the above 2 scenarios, but I find it difficult enough just to find one CIEM that I really like, so I would always keep seeking the sound signature I really like, rather than trying to find something different from a CIEM I own and like.

It's just a difference in philosophical approach

I think mine is more like trying different sound signatures. Mind you, I am still young and trying to find out what is best for me. When I first joined head fi, I was a die hard analytical/flat tuning fan therefore I did my first purchase (GMp 8.35D). I was incredibly happy with it but during the summer time the closed pads made my ears sweat and it was really suffocating me. Also the isolation was not on the level I desire. Therefore they are on sale now.

I dig more in the rabbits hole and I found out there are custom iems, I learned more about them and understood they have almost no zero resell value but because they are made for your ears, they provide very important advantages: comfort, isolation, fit... The ones I suffered a lot with my previous entry level universal iems. So I went for the top directly considering I won't be able to sell it again. After months of research, demoing, discussing with many valuable people (some of there are here in this thread too, thanks to them again) I decided on SE5way.

It opened new doors for me and for my ears. While I am satisfied perfectly, just like Mim, wanting to try new things is always in my mind. If I was a rich person, audiophile gear manufacturers would love me a lot really
happy_face1.gif
So I want to see top tier ciems in different sound signatures and experience which presentation suits me best.

I even want the King of Bass FitEar MH335DW but here in Europe, they are kind of dream. On the other hand, Mim warned me numerous times as they might be too bassy. Still, I am curious how a top tier basshead ciem can sound without turning into low end consumer oriented bassy iems (many mainstream iems that you can find in your regular electronics shops).

EM32, apparently, sits on U shaped sound signature, a bit like NT6 pros I think. It is obvious with only 3 drivers, Frank Lopez created a small miracle in here. Maybe to try that kind of presentation, I can't find a better alternative than EM32? Plus, they are just next door to me, after I finish this master, I can even visit their lab in France

The same comparison crossed my mind, too.

I'd be interested to hear how they compare, since EM32 doesn't seem to be my kind of SS, but NT6-Pro still has my interest, aside from the apparently sometimes-harsh treble.

LOL - yeah, that's always nice.

With 3-D printing, I think it won't be long before CIEM makers will be able to make CIEMs in just a few hours (go into the lab in the morning, with your ear impressions, then they'd scan them digitally, and digitally re-shape the impressions to suit the CIEM, then 3-D print the shells and insert pre-assembled X-over/BA-s/Couplers/socket etc.

Measure freq response.

Job Done

Go back to the lab in the late afternoon, and pick up your new pair of CIEMs!

...but even without that high-tech approach, it's still nice (and worthwhile) being able to actually visit the lab.

I agree. The approach is kind of contradicting. ;) that's why I don't really put on NT6 much, even though I know it's complimenting SE5 so well. But this might be useful for people who listen to wide range of music genres.  I don't know

I think I prefer hand made, real craftsmanship. I value that over machine printed/built toys

I think I remember Suyama-san using 3D printing ciem for his ears but I still prefer his hand made ciems honestly. He sells one of the finest ciems in the world.

Again, EarSonics also use the same/similar technology with acrylic filled shells. That's something I would like to see and use. There is M Fidelity with silicone filled acrylic shells too, I guess more or less the same process.

The ES' CIEMs are not made thanks to 3D printer, it's entirely hand-made ;-/ I visited them for my EM32, it took 7 hours to make them. It was long, but there were CIEM demos on the table and I could work with my computer. And I visited their labs
atsmile.gif
it's an innovant and tiny firm !

EM32 are never harsh in the treble, sweet and extend IMO. The NT6-pro seem to bring more brightness than the EM32. But the EM32 are not U shaped, they are more W shaped.

Yes, I meant 3-D printing some time in the relatively-near future.

But they actually made yours for you during one day, while you waited? Of course I know it's possible, but very few firms would actually offer that speed. That's excellent service.

I still find these videos fascinating to watch, even though I've seen them many times:

BTW, please answer my PM

If you ask them nicely and make an appointment it is possible, but it's rare because Clapiers is not Paris

They use a 3D printer for the earpads and the S-EM6 and you can see it a little, but then they handcraft the piece unlike other manufacturers. They tried to make the CIEM with the 3D printer but it was impossible to have the same result in terms of quality than handcraft.

Yeah it's fair call it that, although I don't find the EM32 to be mid forward, as least not to the extent of EM6 or EM3.  The boost <100 Hz and > 13000Hz clearly stand out from the rest of the spectrum which is why I call it U shape, actually it's not even U shape it's more like a  ] shape (rotate that 90 degree to the right ) ;p

Hey, do you mind comparing how the EM32 sounds in comparison to the Roxannes, JH13's from your ZX1?

Also I am looking for a CIEM that sounds dynamic and explosive like the Line Array speakers found in concerts. Also, I like how the LCD2 sounds and it kind of sounds like a line array to me in terms of the bass slam and dynamics. Any advise?

Hmm...it's a tough one.

IMO, neither JH13 FP nor roxannes pair good with ZX1 which will make JHA product sounds a bit thin and analytical. Between the two, JH13 FP is smoother, fuller and more musical with better treble extension, while roxannes sounds clearer, more spacious, more analytical but with less extended treble.

As far as EM32, it really sounds like my old LCD 2 rev.1. The mid-section is not as forward as LCD 2. Treble sounds very similar with that creamy, exquisite presentation. However the bass on LCD 2 is much more controlled compared to EM32. So if you want to get EM32, be prepared to hear some very impactful bass.
