Hey Jamato how is the DX90 holding up against your new AK100ii ? I hope it's giving it a run for its money still

I have pretty much finished burning in the AK100II. I take it with me and listen when I walk or have something to do and have been using it instead of the DX90. I don't find the UI any more convent and for some reason I can't use the folder function of the 100II, as it shows and error and I like using the folder function. Regarding sound, I need to compare head to head. So far I find the DX90 has a little larger stage and more air but I need to listen back and forth now that I have a handle on the sound and since it has had a lot of time playing.

I have DX90 need to update. Do i need to update from 2.0.0 first and then 2.0.5 all the way or i just need update latest 2.1.5? please advice. Thanks

Just udate directly to the FW you want to use. All the updates are in each one so the last one contains all the previous updates.

Hey all, I'm looking at picking up this player and expect to use the PC-DAC functionality fairly frequently. I understand there have been issues with it and was wondering if anyone has had problems recently. Thanks.

I wonder if there is anyone who uses this player with FAD FI-BA-SS? My experience with this combi is very positive. It would have been an end game if not of my Lab1 purchase.

I've used my DX90 with both Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 8.1 64-bit.  For music, it is great.  But there is lag when using it for video.  It's correctable, but you shouldn't have to.  I use my FIIO e17 when doing video because it synchs perfectly without any fuss.

Alright thanks for the input. My work pc is 7 64-bit and my home is 8.1 64-bit as well (so that was perfect). I would only use it for steaming music/playing from my libraries so the lag shouldn't be an issue.

To play DSF files in foobar with the DX90 working as DAC, do I need anything besides the SACD input plugin ?

I have not made a thorough comparison yet ( blind test) but so far the obvious difference that I can hear using Roxanne is that on X5 I can turn the bass pot past 2PM and doesn't sound overly thick and bloated compared to DX90.

Either DX90 has a bit moss emphasis on bass or X5 has a bit of rolled off bass. Specifically for Roxanne alone, X5 has an edge because that bass pot on Roxanne has longer range on X5 than on DX90.

Perhaps the X5 is capable of delivering a bit more output current than the DX90?

Maybe. But I doubt it. Even if it's true is should not matter because Roxanne is very sensitive.

They have about the same power output. DX90 is always 1db higher than X5 when I measured both at the high gain / max volume. I used HE-400i @ 35 ohm as load.

IMO, current supply will always matter, even on sensitive monitors and volume doesn't determine power output. I like solid bass and have no issues with my monitors and the DX90 except larger demand ones, which no dap will power adequately at this time. Comparing the X5 and the DX90 the bass, to my ears, is in the same area of definition.
