I believe, the key difference is that 3M AB5100S has high resistive surface and safe for applying.

Yes, i believe it, too. Much more safe applying ( less chance electrical short circuit ).

THE METAL TAPE COULD BE DANGEROUS !

The 3M Pads are well known for applying on DACs : http://jplay.eu/forum/computer-audio/the-battle-against-harshness/

Is this right ? Using headphones with higher impendance is better for the DX90 ?

16 Ohm
------------------------------------------------
96.5 / 118 dB - Dynamic Range 16 / 24 bit
-69 dB - Crosstalk L
-69 dB - Crosstalk R

32 Ohm
------------------------------------------------
96.5 / 118.3dB
-75.1 dB
-75.6 dB

150 Ohm
------------------------------------------------
96.5 / 120.8 dB
-88 dB
-88 dB

600 Ohm

96.5 / 121.3 db
-92.5 dB
-97.7 dB

If you read the whole test result chart. At 600ohm load the DX90 only give 12mW max, compare to 240mW max at 16ohm load. So it is normal for better performance at lower output.

There is always a trade-off. Problem is power supply of DX90 is limited. For simplicity sake, DX90 works best on headphone loads between 16 Ohms to 150 Ohms.

Below 16 Ohms and mostly sensitive iems, noise may become notceable. Above 150 Ohms, DX90's power supply can't provide enough power/voltage swing.

Hello all, some first impressions.

First, a minor bug(?): I am noticing that when in folder play mode, when I play the first song, the player continues with the other songs, when finished playing the first one, but most times it stops before playing all of them in that folder/album. On the other hand when I am in the album mode and press play, all songs are played which is great.

The gapless worked great in most (if not all) songs. I noticed it especially while listening to "the dark side of the moon" and some Klaus Schulze works.

It is also worth mentioning that I find great the implementation of no pre scanning so that you can start playing a song seconds after inserting a new card. The scanning is apparently done per album basis, not everything at the same time which would slow the player down. This is a great feature for me, as I was thinking of having different sd cards for each genre of music. I was sceptical because I read about long scanning times, but as I said, I experienced zero delay.

I noticed that sometimes, when I continuously play songs, the very first part (1 or 2 seconds into the song) is sometimes skipped. Any way to fix this? I have gapless turned off since I just listen to all my music in shuffle mode.

And is it ok to listen to the DX90 while charging it with a powerbank? Or should I just wait for it to finish charging first?

No risk. Charge while you play.

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a DX-90 to compliment my K10's due to the positive reviews and price.  However, reliability concerns have me a bit hesitant.  What do owners think in terms of reliability?  Does the DX-90 seem like it will last a long time?  Am I better off saving up and getting an AK-120?

Get the AK120 instead.  I can't be sure as my DX90 is in the shop, but the K10 pairs really well with the AK120 un-amped.  If cost is a factor, then why not get a AK100, which is $425 from Amazon last time I checked.

What concern do you have? I have been using my DX90 daily since it's first released. Never had any issues with the build.

+1

Besides that, you can change the battery (one of the main reasons why I bought it).
I wonder if the AK120 will sound better compared to a DX90 with Lurker0's 2.1.5 L2 FW installed...
