i dunno ak120 and dpx1.....but between dx80 and dx90 i will choose dx90 for sure when comes to the sound quality.....

I agree. dx90 is considered as better sound.

I think the 90 is more analytical and true to the recording, but the 80 is a bit more musical and lively.
That's what I have found so far on my limited listening of the 80. Had the 9 for over a year before I let go of it.

I was able to compare my dx90 w/Cayin C5 amp to the dx80 about 3 weeks ago. same music on 2 sdcards. using audio technica im03 and liked the dx80 a lot. I could live with it alone. the dx90 really likes the amp to be musical for me. i like the idea of less bulk and one piece. I doubt i will buy it, who knows. latest firmware for dx90 is nice also. (lurker).
 
pretty sure i was using 2.2 lurker when i compared, also dx80 would of had older software.
 
i didn't compare to dx90 without the amp tho.
 
also heard the fitear togo  and noble10u - both were unreal great.

I believe a DAP by itself will not sound good or bad, it is the phone\iem combo. Had a chance to compare DX90 and 80 before jumping on a 90. The treble texture is much better with the 846. More zing and hairy if that makes sense.

hmm. ever since i got the x7, qp1r and akjr, and mojo(with iphone 6s+) i havent been using my dx90.  But thanks to your post, I will try it again with my 846.  From what I remember though, the 90 is more analytical than qp1r and akjr The QP1R a tad bit warmer and the AKjr just more musical.  gotta dig up the 90 tonight thanks for this

It really is a great combination.  I love how the treble sounds on the DX90.  Also the extra bloom in the bass makes it really enjoyable to listen to pop, EDM, rock.
