Perhaps all999 can describe the AKG's?
 
But the Grado's are great if you prefer a treble/clear/punchy sound to your audio - they put you right there on the stage with the band
 
The 880's are warm/comfortable but quite magical in the way they present all the instruments in the soundstage - to me it feels like im in the studio control room listening to the band play live

Including the AKG K545 you have 3 very different sounding headphones to look at
 
Perhaps all999 can describe the AKG's?

For metal music, Grado all the way IMO. Grado SR-325i can be had for $295, well under your $400 budget.
