Please link the battery solution you come up with. Would love to make 12V DC In portable!!! I can't get the Fiio. It says its no longer available. I can get off Ripoff-Bay/ebay for over $200 but that is crazy.
Well for now I have a couple of batteries need to check which and how it works - they should all work fine with these specific cables that have a chip in the USB-C which triggers/fakes a 12V request from the consumer (device).
Hmm there are others that are selling FiiO PL50 on AliEx - but I didn't find 110V for USA in the other offerings.
You can PTT on the LHY AUDIO LPS...you can go for a "cheaper" one that doesn't have 2 outputs if you don't need it and it should probably cost similar to the FiiO PL50.
Wow you are a genius, lets hear what the outcome is when you get them!
I was drooling at this idea for a while now ... I actually ordered a silver plated USB-C to 5.5x2.1 + adapter to test it out but...it seems like that cable doesn't have the chip in the USB-C plug so it doesn't trigger the 12V output of the GaN chargers/external battery packs. These new ones should though, on the Discovery Thread a fellow Head-Fi'er actually has ordered and used a similar cable (from another vendor) to power his FiiO K11 R2R ... so yeah, this time around it will work!
I have a Baseus Amblight Power Bank 65W 30000mAh and another one that can put out 140W...both are rather on the large/heavy side considering the mAh they're caring + ports + max output power but they should work just fine to power both the DAP and AMP separately - they have multiple output ports.

@Whitigir Could we pick your brain on designing a portable battery power supply for 12V DC in? I don't know how to sodder so it needs to be something simple lol. Rather get a portable solution if that will provide same quality as LPSU.
There is already something like this...but it's not "portable" rather "transportable"...LHY Audio LT3042 12V 2A - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005947064087.html
I was actually thinking of getting this one instead of the 2 output transformer based one :))
First I still want to try the external power bank stuff...obviously the LHY Audio one is going to be more HiFi since it has dedicate circuitry to clean and keep the current clean and fixed in place.

That will be your best bet. But then again, battery as a source isnt Linear 😆. There are pros and cons for each solutions. But that battery bank is definitely a good one

All I want to do is power the 12V DC IN. I can charge the DAP using the Anker which actually works really well. Fast charges too.

Exactly, documented a bit (lot) about the main differences and how both work and why it's better to have one vs the other...not it actually all comes down to how much runtime do you actually need in order to get to the lower voltages of the batteries and then experience some drawbacks because of inconsistent power delivery to the AMP card...

Same, but if I can power both, why not? :D
In theory, but we need to measure this (and I can with a USB-C device), the AMP card might not draw a lot of power. It depends on volume gain etc most definitely.
If it has a low Wattage...then we may be able to use a lower capacity and size for an external bank that's dedicated just for the AMP card.

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805760749335.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt Looks like 18650 batteries and those are cheap and have charger. I will wait and see if Fiio becomes available after holiday and order that. I will also order this battery solution to have both :)
1/2kg and 20000mAh, sounds about right - a little big more weight due to the metal build, but definitely more sturdy than your average external plastic power bank.
This seems to be a tank if you ask me.
Main difference from LHY Audio 25W/30W LPSU and the FiiO PL50 one is that FiiO has that DC output switch where you can switch between 12V and 15V and some other thing on the inside, otherwise they are pretty much identical from what I've studied about the 2.

All I need is Fiio then. I can message Ebay seller and see if they can lower price.

Here is something that is very cheap - paid $10 for mine - that will give maybe 3 to 4 more hours more of battery life for on-the-go use. Key is to plug it in right away when battery is charged 100%. With battery bypass you aren't harming the 340 battery. I used yesterday when battery on DX340 was at 84% and then plugged in Anker and got 2.5 hours and it still had charge left including it charging the DX340 battery to 100%.

Honestly, If I was thinking about batteries, which I did, I would be seeking down PB5. No need for battery, an excellent amp, balanced tube with it (just look at it like having a balanced tube amp modules with mods and batteries)

The only thing that makes senses will be the LPSU, just IMHO, because you can always use it plugged in, or preamp out

I am still looking out for PB5…but the AMP15 still needs a LPSU before outputting to PB5 for max signal :))
And when AMP16 comes out…with a power bank you’ll have maybe … maybe a mini PB5

Here is my favorite portable atm
The reason why I recommend you this if you were looking to optimizing the performances of the 340 are as follows

1/ It doesnt have PB5, just any amp that you can get for <$800. I recommend PB5 because technologically wise, it has 6 batteries, never seen it in portable stuff before

2/ you will be able to maximize the 340 DAC as the attenuations will be bypassed at 100 Preamp out. Your attenuations will be done by your amp, whatever it is. Most other amps use Alp pots. Superiorities would be stepped attenuations and again, the PB5 has it

3/ it is portable as long as you slapping an external amp to it. There are plenty of choices. It doesnt have to be PB5

I've tried to update the firmware with no luck - I don't seem to have the option to copy/paste the folder from my laptop to either the DX340 internal memory or SD card - any thoughts?!

Screenshot 2025-01-24 230020.png

I right click and choose copy...

Screenshot 2025-01-24 230108.png

But when I then go to the DX340 internal memory (or SD card), I don't have an option to paste - I've tried to drag the folder also with no luck.

I also tried downloading directly to the DX340 over WiFi, but the file goes straight to the download folder on the DAP, and when following the steps to update, it doesn't pick it up - I guess as the first folder needs to be unzipped?

The DX340 sounds so good with super gain AMP15!!! Not saying PB5 doesn't sound good. I will bet money it will sound better than AMP16. For me I can't run Wavelet with D16/PB5 unless I used LOW gain lower volume to prevent distortions which is why I bit the bullet and bought the DX340. Even without super gain my 340 is sounding better and better in just high gain as its burning in. Still have many hours to go.
