Right from the beginning, the most notable difference between the AMP16 and the AMP14 is that the first one is almost silent and immune to WiFi inference when the AMP14 picks a great amount of noise.
In my case, using CF Clara which seem to be very sensitive, in regular playing, I get hiss in AMP15 and 16, but non with AMP14. However, AMP 14 has the most wifi interference (crackling), but mostly only when I'm streaming or when I'm close to my Desktop or even phone. However, playing offline content through UAPP/Mango in airplane mode (wifi off) gives me no hiss, and no interference.

No hiss issues for me whatsoever with CF Supermoon or Mammoth using Amp 15 (just fantastic sound). I’ve yet to get and try out any of the tube Amp cards, though.

Just to make things clear

In my original post i was referring to interface from the WiFi antenna while streaming and not background noise from the tubes itself

Not that bad. A faint hissing or maybe scratching noise that is only audible in silent music passages but you can't deny that it exists.

@Neeoo

Too early to say.
Amp 14 in a DX320 required wifi connection to be 2.4 ghz in order to reduce the interference noise. Also keep your phone a meter or 2 away from the dap.

I'm having a hard time keeping up with the DX340 thread, it is getting almost as bad as the Watercooler with so much daily activity :) However, I would like to share my thoughts on the AMP14 vs AMP16 comparison and the decision on which one to keep or get, as I have received numerous questions about it. This is how I hear it.

DX340 w/AMP16 (tube) vs DX320 SS w/AMP14 – The 320/14 soundstage perception is wider, especially in mids/vocals that stretch slightly more. The tuning varies as well. The only thing they have more in common is mid-range, being smooth, textured, and having natural tonality. Starting with the bass, the sub-bass extension is similar, but mid-bass punch is tighter, faster, and has more control in 340/16, while 320/14 mid-bass is slower and more relaxed. 340/16 treble has more sparkle and air than a smoother 320/14 treble presentation. Overall, the 340/16 sound is tighter, faster, more energetic, and has a blacker background, while 320/14 sounds more relaxed, smoother, and analog with a laid-back sound presentation. Please keep in mind that here you are not just comparing amps, but a combo of a corresponding DAC with an amp card.

DX340 w/AMP16 (tube) vs DX340 w/AMP14 – The 340/14 soundstage perception is a touch wider, similar to the 320/14 comparison, with mids/vocals stretching slightly more to the left/right. As a reminder, during this comparison, I had to power down the DX340 when switching amps, as I didn’t want to risk swapping cards on the fly. This results in a slight delay when comparing the sounds, as it is no longer a straight A/B comparison. I noticed that 340/14, relative to 320/14, gains a blacker background and more sparkle in the treble, bringing it closer to 340/16 in that perspective. The mids are not too far off, similar to my previous comparison. The bass extension is also similar, and the 340/14 mid-bass gains a bit more punch, more than the 320/14, but not as much or as fast as in the 340/16. I also hear more sparkle in 340/14 vs 320/14, approaching a similar level to 340/16, but not exactly the same, which makes 340/14 still sound smoother than 340/16. Overall, the sound difference between 340/14 and 340/16 is not that big; it is smaller than the gap between 320/14 and 340/16.

Some of my readers have asked if they already have AMP14, so should they get AMP16? Here is what it will come down to, with a lot of being the functionality. AMP14 offers 4.4mm PO and LO, in Tube mode only, while AMP16 offers 4.4mm PO and 3.5mm PO, with no LO, but you get both Tube and Class AB solid-state options, as well as the option for external DC-in power boost of the amp section. If you only use 4.4mm and don’t care about LO or Class AB solid-state mode, keep your AMP14 and get a conversion faceplate kit. Otherwise, if you want more flexibility without needing to switch between separate Tube and Solid-State amp cards, and you enjoy the DC-in power boost, the AMP16 is an excellent choice. I think both are great to have with the DX340.

As many are aware, AMP14 will not fit directly into DX340. You need to buy an optional 4.4mm faceplate and follow these steps:

I have also put together finally my thoughts on the 3 amp card I tried in the DX340.

Can you also describe the difference AMP15 vs AMP16 in AB mode? Can AMP16 completely replace AMP15?

Can someone explain what each harmonic do?

Harmonic:

One of the five options can be selected to change the audio harmonics.

H1: Original, no harmonic adjustment applied.

H2: Natural, slight adjustments on both the odd and even
harmonics to make music more natural.

Н3: Even+, increases the even harmonics. The sound
becomes more tube-like.

H4: Odd+, increases the odd harmonics. The sound
becomes more dynamic.

H5: All, combines both the H3 and H4.

Doing a little listening whilst kids are playing in the park. All I have are much older DAPs as comparisons - bearing in mind that the 1Z is what I’ve been used to for the past 8 yrs.

My prelim notes after ~110 hrs of burn in of the AMP15

I hear more than what I would have missed on the NW-WM1Z. Wider, more detail but somehow I wanted more articulation in the DX340.

The 1Z OTOH is warmer, more intimate, and seems to have a little more smearing of detail but feels more musical & more emotional - coloured but in a positive “close to heart” way.

The DX340 with AMP15 feels more neutral, raw & sterile. I assume colourless is due to the AMP15 - I haven’t burnt in AMP16 yet.

Capability-wise, DX340 is powerful but I haven’t tried my Susvara yet (Edit: yes I have now). More power than the WA11 Topaz on paper but volume wise seems comparable.

The weight - crazy! I thought my 1Z was heavy enough, the DX340 is heavier. Need new pouch to carry it. It doesn’t fit in my Volk Tactical side pocket that the 1Z lives in.

UI - prefer Sony’s best but at least DX340 is faster than my vintage DX200 (it better be!!)

Buttons are a little annoying. I keep accidentally pausing pressing. Haven’t investigated any button locking yet but everytime I pick up the DX340, I have a 50/50 chance of pausing or rewinding.

Same with the volume dial. I have to disable with screen is asleep but at the same time when I want to change I have to wake it up.

I’ll be searching for DX340 cases tethered by a wrist strap attachment where I can pull it out of a bag or pocket.

The buttons are very easy to accidentally press. I need to lock everything :) But the weight dont bother me. I use it at the gym all the time.
