Doing a little listening whilst kids are playing in the park. All I have are much older DAPs as comparisons - bearing in mind that the 1Z is what I’ve been used to for the past 8 yrs.

My prelim notes after ~110 hrs of burn in of the AMP15

I hear more than what I would have missed on the NW-WM1Z. Wider, more detail but somehow I wanted more articulation in the DX340.

The 1Z OTOH is warmer, more intimate, and seems to have a little more smearing of detail but feels more musical & more emotional - coloured but in a positive “close to heart” way.

The DX340 with AMP15 feels more neutral, raw & sterile. I assume colourless is due to the AMP15 - I haven’t burnt in AMP16 yet.

Capability-wise, DX340 is powerful but I haven’t tried my Susvara yet. More power than the WA11 Topaz.

The weight - crazy! I thought my 1Z was heavy enough, the DX340 is heavier. Need new pouch to carry it. It doesn’t fit in my Volk Tactical side pocket that the 1Z lives in.

UI - prefer Sony’s best but at least DX340 is faster than my vintage DX200 (it better be!!)

Buttons are a little annoying. I keep accidentally pausing pressing. Haven’t investigated any button locking yet but everytime I pick up the DX340, I have a 50/50 chance of pausing or rewinding.

Same with the volume dial. I have to disable with screen is asleep but at the same time when I want to change I have to wake it up.

I’ll be searching for DX340 cases tethered by a wrist strap attachment where I can pull it

The buttons are very easy to accidentally press. I need to lock everything :) But the weight dont bother me. I use it at the gym all the time.

Does it play .iso files? (SACD Rip).
Thank you. 🤔
I have individual DSF tracks, rather than a single iso file. I haven't tried DFF yet but I suspect DFF would work too. Dunno about ISO albums.

Separate topic, looks like I have a dead AMP16. After burning in the AMP15, I've switched to the AMP16 and no sound from 4.4mm nor 3.5mm. Switching back to the AMP15, it's fine. (yes I do switch the DX340 off whenever I switch amps).

Is this your first time trying out the AMP16, or did it work before? If not, make sure you updated your firmware. The amp16 does not work with the initial out of the box firmware the DC340 came with.

1st time trying the AMP16. Just updated the firmware to the latest 1.03.408. No luck. Anything else I could try?

Other then pulling it out, re-seating it and making sure you're inserting it correctly (the rubber section should be on the right sight, though I don't think one can do it backwards), I'm out of ideas and agree you may have a DOA.

Nah tried that already. Putting in the AMP15, works again. Putting the AMP16 - nada - both 4.4mm & 3.5mm. Tried different gain settings...with and without 12VDCIn, etc. no luck. Prob DoA. Sent a mail to Paul already. Thx anyway. Back to AMP15 I guess.

I'm grateful for any help.

I've been using my DX340 with AMP 15 for over two months now and can play local music without any problems and streaming also works well. Now I tried to use the USB DAC function. I can only play music at 44.1 kHz via USB DAC, but not a higher bit rate and not DSD either. All I hear is hissing. The current firmware 1.03 is installed. I tried both on Windows with the Windows driver and on Linux with Alsa. It's always the same behavior.

Can this be a software problem or is it a hardware problem. Is there anything else I can do?

Have you tried a different USB cable? Make sure there is a data rating as USB C as 5, 10, and 20 gbps. You only need the minimum but not all USB C cables are rated for data.

I assume, after inserting AMP16, you power-cycled the DX340? The hot swap without power cycling won't work.

I have the Sony and a lot of other gear. In no way would I call the DX340 sterile. I find it more lifelike than the 1Z and just exceptional overall. I have a few hundred hours on mine, well I have over 500 hours. I find it the most true to music I have heard. I listen to a lot of live music, un amped when possible, acoustical etc., and the DX340 frankly, has pretty much everything that I am hearing in non digital naturally produced sound. I think with anything, there is a period of getting used to how a product works. The volume control, the side buttons etc. I even hike with mine and can say, I enjoy the use and have no issues as I am used to how it works now and find the sound to be exceptionally natural and full.
