It occurred to me that the headphones appear slightly similar in the way they're designed.  I have never heard either.  If I were to venture into one of them, which is the preferred pair these days?

If you're referring to a Beyer DT-48, don't.  It's 74 year old technology, and while you might like the sound, you would very likely not appreciate that you can't move your head left or right, or even yawn, without killing the bass.
