Here's the thing... lately I'm becoming more and more curious about the Beyers, their sound signature, so I'm thinking in getting either the DT 770 (Pro or 2005) or the DT 990 (I prefer closed cans, but if the SQ of the 990 is much more superior than the SQ of the 770, I have no problem getting them), but only if they excel the cans I already have in any department (for instance, I use the Pro 900s to listen to electronic music and the HD 598 to listen to female vocals, classical...).

So my question is... considering the Pro 900 and the HD 598, do you think the Beyers would have a shot against them, or I'd end up using either the Pro 900 or the HD 598?

And concerning the DT 770 Pro vs 2005... I've read some mixed impressions. Some say the Pros have less recessed mids, others, the 2005. And I also read some people saying they sound the same and all the difference comes from the headband clamping force. So, for overall SQ (not only bass), which one is better?

Thanks

[Edit: Forgot to say... I'll use my laptop with the E7/E9 as source, and I listen to FLAC and mp3s in 320kbps most of the time, though I have some lower quality mp3s, ie 256kbps VBR]

I only find Beyer good for is Rock and I like my HD598 over the 770 any day.

I would say to keep your HD598 and set your EQ to raise the mids and lower the bass to bring out rock better

Also, 2005 edition was better and I think the 990 isn't worth it. But then the 2005 isn't worth the price due to that you already have the HD598 and then the 770 can't touch the HD598 either

God that's confusing. But frankly I chose the HD598 over Beyer and a few others

What were you looking for in a headphone anyway, maybe I can turn you towards a new can?
Or, what were you missing in the cans you already have, mids?

Actually, I love the HD 598 and the Pro 900. I was just thinking in getting the Beyers because I was curious about their sound (there are not a lot of places where I can test headphones around here, so I have to read a lot and buy them only if I'm sure - I'm too lazy to send them back for refund, etc

).

And thanks for the clarification, I guess the Beyers wouldn't be a good purchase in the end.

But since you asked, do you have any suggestion for a headphone that would be a nice addition to the HD 598 and Pro 900 lineup? Like I said, I prefer closed can, and if they're not hard to drive, it's even better (because then I can use them at work, with no amp). And within 200 - 300 eur would be better (I bought the Pro 900 last month... I think I may be a headphone addict lol)

Well, how about you do what I did

I had my SR80i and V6, high and lows like you and I wanted a can to focus on Mids

How about you grab a pair of T50RP. Some modding, easy modding btw, and some time to get used to them and they will be a strong contender in your collection.
Here's a review:

WARNING: They do need a amp, but a Cowon drives them well.

Other then that, I would save up your money and wait off to get a REALLY good can because other wise you start collecting the same stuff. I'm pretty much off my high at the moments and just cruising along because I know where I stand I have a great balance of cans paired with my Modded Receiver and great sources, so everything is fine with me.

I just read MalVeaux's impression of the Shure 940, so I might have found my next can

I'm going to check the T50RP as well, but this will be hard to get, should I decided to buy them (France really sucks for buying headphones).

Thanks for all the replies
