Or, for $1469.00, and being without my stock DAC-2 for a couple of weeks, I could have one of those . . .

Actually, I've just purchased LCDXs, along with some cheap (and free) software tweaks and updates, so I'm happy for awhile.

I have repeatedly auditioned Bryston products, and I have found them to be cold, unmusical and boring, and this includes the product mentioned here. I have a WFS Dac 2 and it is amazing. The detail and sound stage are Incredible.  Truly chilling.  It has the advantage of great connectivity....you can connect 2 coax, 2 optical, I aes and 1 IS2 device(s).  The Dac 2 has a built in pre amplified, but I prefer the warmer sound of my McIntosh C220 pre amp which is connected to a Mac MC2102 power amp.
Hope this helps.

Talk about strategic ... very smart. W4S is 200 miles north of L.A. - I'd elect to pick mine up, chat with them a bit.

I would jump on that like my trip to Decware. What a grand time that would be!

Looking to make a DAC purchase pretty soon and I've seen a couple DAC2s up for sale under $1k. I'm considering the X-Sabre, Gungnir, DA8 or some of the AudioGD offerings. Where does the DAC2 fall into these offerings sonically (dry, warm, analytical, etc)? I'm just starting this thread so be gentle.

I have not heard the other DAC's you are considering, though there are many Head-Fi'ers who enjoy and appreciate each of them. For me, the original DAC2 was a revelation. I got to spend a few hours with it and was instantly smitten. Everything sounded....right. It revealed details I had not heard before from recordings that I had listened to many times.

One nice bonus is the upgradeability of the DAC2.You can have them upgrade it to the full new version when you have the cash later. Nice to know it will not be outdated.

Good luck!
