I believe that HDMI has no jitter issues.  I have no idea what's involved here but at least we can adapt with the future when it arrives.

FYI.  W4S DAC's "HDMI" input has nothing to do with the video HDMI input, as it only uses the HDMI connectors (could have easily been DIN or RJ45 connectors instead) to transmit the I2S AUDIO signal only.  Video HDMI, as in TV, has TONs of issues with audio jitter, as there is no separate channel for audio clock in HDMI format, just like the poor spdif format.

The W4S uses the HDMI connector to transmit audio data and clock separately, so when mated to a transport with I2S output, it theoretically should have better performance than spdif.  Unfortunately, using the HDMI connector for I2S is totally proprietary, and by accident, PS Audio's HDMI (I2S) pinout is compatible with W4S, so one could use Perfectwave transport to W4S DAC via HDMI cable and enjoy the advantages of I2S.

Order placed for DAC 2 today, will have tomorrow, then the burn in and fun begins.  Thanks for your help in making this decision.

The W4S DAC 2 is a great pairing with the Liquid Fire.  I own both (and Venom Cables for both as well) and the sound is everything I wished for.  I do have the LCD2.2's so your 3's should take it up a notch for sure.

If you're not a burn-in believer, this piece of gear might change your mind.  Mine was all over the map for at least a couple of hundred hours before it finally settled in.

I don't think I've read anywhere on Head-Fi (or anyplace else, for that matter) about anyone who owned this unit not being totally satisfied with it, though.

X2 or shall I say X200hrs.
The RE-Zero was another piece of gear that converted me as well.

Oh, absolutely know what burn in is all about.  Just got past the 200 hour mark on my new Liquid Fire.  Good times.

Let us know.  I bet it's incredible!

Just grabbed a W4S ST 500 amp for my speaker rig.  We'll see how well it mates with the W4S DAC-2.   XLR out from the DAC-2 into the ST 500 and DAC-2 RCA outs to a subwoofer.

I think with the DAC-2 you can pretty much let it rip so I can't think of any specific settings that matter.

For volume pre-gain level, I use between 60-70.  It has been reported that Level 60 gives the cleanest signal but how much cleaner nobody has given details.
For PCM rolloff and IIR bandwidth I use default settings.  Some of these can be adjusted to better suit your headphones/amp.  For me default sounds good.
I lower the brightness of the display using the remote.
Haven't found a difference with phase setting and my headphone gear.

An interesting take on the burn-in requirements:

The Wyred DAC1 is a nightmare as far as break-in is concerned.  If you don't believe in break-in, sorry...  Here's the rundown:

The DAC1 has the longest break-in period I've ever observed - 600+.  I'm not kidding, it went through a lot of the swings that the STP-SE did, but worse.

Out of the box:  Started boomy, huge over emphasis in the bass.  Yet neutral through the midrange and highs.
About 100hrs:  Settled down and sounded nice.
About 200hrs - 300hrs:  Nice but a bit of sibilance.
About 300hrs - 400hrs:  Nothing really to add.  Sibilance is gone, nice and neutral overall presentation.
About 400hrs+ - 500hrs:  It became shrill and damn near unlistenable - I was concerned.  I even checked cables thinking I'd put the silvers in for some reason - nope, just the DAC.
About 500hrs - 600hrs:  It started to settle - sounded kind of nice; but, limited dynamics. Bass was muddled, kind of sibilant.

Then I turned it off and was gone for 3 weeks.  Came home and ran it for 24hrs straight muted.

Now about 600hrs+:  Dynamics, detail with a touch of warmth.  Way Nice!

I just wanted to add some additional thoughts!

Thanks, so far, very happy with the purchase.  Great fit with the Liquid Fire and LCD-3's.

What are the default settings for the PCM rolloff and IIR bandwidth.   I'm redoing my room and the manual is in a box somewhere.
