i know music have something to do with your sound preference too,  but i think mainly my sound preference was set by my Koss Portapros,  they are no doubt bass heavy, bright and fun to listen to. after spending some time with the protapros i find it too muddy.   till now , i compare all the headphones' bass to the portapro,  i still like something similar to portapros.  i think the portapros are like a bench mark to me, if a pair of headphone have less bass quantity, i would consider them bass light for my taste

No. My sonic preferences were set by playing instruments in bands and orchestras from when I was nine through undergrad. I also judge by the hundreds of live performances I've attended.

I always look for fidelity to music I've experienced in real life.

Definitely not. You might get used to each set you buy, but ultimately you still have your preferred sound sig and when you get something that has it you will hear it instantly.
