I have a HD800 and T1 coming this week. When I heard the K1000 at the local meet, it got me thinking. Do I really need a K1000? I want it in mint with all packaging so I may have to pay top dollars. Is it worth the money? Are there replacement parts for them when repairs are needed?

This is my second time buying the HD800 so I know what I'm in for. The K1000 attracted my eyes and ears so I'm thinking of owning a pair for my collection.

If your ears want it...go for it.

K1000 are much better than the HD800 and T1. You should probably just give both of them to me.

Ok, in all seriousness....

I don't see why you would pay tons of extra money just to get one mint. Provided it sounds good (with no rattle) it should be fine. Then again, it's up to you and it seems you have already placed an ad for mint K1000s. Replace parts aren't available, easily, I don't think...AKG will probably just toss you a Q701 or something and tell you it sounds better.

The K1000 is an entirely unique headphone which would serve as a great complemen to the HD800 and T1. Nothing else really sounds like it... except a nice Stax setup.

So, yes, you do need a K1000

I am very picky about my gear so it has to be like new if I buy used. It will be my first used headphones. If the parts are no longer available, I may skip it. I don't want it to break and then becomes a $1000+ door stop.

Drivers are no longer available. However, I haven't heard of any blown drivers save for the knuckleheads who accidentally destroy one trying to recable the K-1000.

I doubt you'll find many minty ones left, either. I still have the shipping box and everything for mine, but only my heirs might sell them, assuming they don't fall in love, too.

Still, it's worth owning a pair. The soundstage is about the best there is, short of dipoles.
