My current setup is H|T Omega soundcard -> Schiit Valhalla -> Beyerdynamic DT-880 (600 Ohm).
I know that the Soundcard in my case acts as a DAC. I will invest in a seperate DAC (any recommendations are welcome assuming you know your stuff) to upgrade my chain which is just leaves me with one missing link - the preamp.
From reading some threads I've concluded that the preamp is what controls the power amp (In this case my Valhalla? Am I right?), in other words its like the brain for the amp.
But analogies aside:
Do I actually need a preamp in this case (I listen to FLAC and 320kbps MP3s so vinyl is not something to consider because I heard preamps are needed for vinyls)?
Will it improve in anyway my SQ or any other quality of the chain?
If so, what kind of a preamp should I get?
If the DAC and Amp part of the chain is the done, have I basically bypassed everything there is to bypass on a soundcard and my PC is just basically storing the music?
And lastly, can any recommend any headphone stands and how to go about finding one of them rigs that you would put your amp in to make the set up look nice (i.e. A table or shelf with 2+ levels for storing seperate parts of the chain)?
