I haven't messed around much with them, but to my ears, 14,8mm 32ohms Multi-layer nano bio-composite and 15,4mm 150ohms magnesium lithium alloy, are pretty good drivers.

32ohms multi-layer is midcentric warm with inoffensive highs.
150ohms magnesium lithium is also warm, with crisp highs, but i don't find said highs to be pronounced, but rather flat. Highs are VERY GOOD.

I'll add more information after i have spent more time with them, but i am very satisfied so far.

Hey, I'm new here, and keen to try make some qian39 shell earbuds :)

I'm trying to figure out which drivers will fit the qian39 shell, is it only the 14.8mm?
Also, are drivers easily removed from their mesh covers? Eg can I refit a 14.8mm pk1 driver into a qian shell?

I had a look through the google doc guide but most of the links are down. Aliexpress and superbuy seem to have a mind of their own when I try to search for earbud parts, what search terms / tricks do you use to find drivers, cables, foam etc?

Lastly, can anyone comment on roughly how many of the drivers available are used on name brand chifi earbuds? I wonder whether these parts are marketed (and priced) towards enthusiasts or companies, and ultimately what kind of savings or price: performance ratio to hope for when building your own earbuds. Especially considering how reasonably priced earbuds already are.

It's obviously worth it to DIY your own pair of earbuds. A build will cost you between $10 and $40 depending on which drivers you choose

Been working on a new shell design cramming the biggest bass tube I could in a reasonably sized shell. Took a few attempts but I finally got a successful print.

Quick build with blue basic/foster drivers that I had lying around with just y2 paper on the driver for tuning.
These drivers aren't known for their bass but in this shell they outdo the Yincrow X6 in all but the lowest frequencies. I'll have to order some more drivers and play around with the tuning but there's some definite potential.

awhile back, I had a few projects ready to go (replacing the broken cable from a yincrow and trying my first mmcx mx500 build w/ a 120 bery) and posting the results but some life things happened, so they are in the ever growing backlog of things. also, got new gear, a JM21 which has both unbalanced and balanced inputs and could output up to 300 ohm. so with the countdown to tariffs, I made a few buys recently:
3 of the 4 drivers are going into mx500 shells and one in a headset made for the gameboy.

does anyone have any experiences trying out these drivers regarding the sound signatures?

300r blue glue is difficult to tune and called "the donkey" because of this.
I did a build with it that had great technicalities, but sounded not very natural... Am planning to experiment more with it in the future. I believe it is the driver used in the HB1 earbud that is talked about in the earbuds roundup thread lately. Needs very little venting/a lot of pressure in the shell, otherwise dark sounding.
150r blue glue should be a win and can be either a bit brighter or darker.
Try it in mx500 with thin cables (from ry shop) so it has enough "bass port" air venting through the cable entry.
Y2,Y3 or Y4 (maybe Y5 if you like it hot) tuning paper on the back of the driver. Try what you like. Different flavors of balanced sound. I like the driver a lot and think it gives a natural sound.
No experience with the 18ohm driver.
120r bery comp - no experience, I built a bud with the 150r variant which came out as somewhat w-shaped with nice extended treble and the deepest subbass I have heard so far in an earbud.
Maybe @jeejack or some other veteran knows more and could give you hints on how to tune those drivers of yours.

@droenald right on!

I also forgot to mention that I came across the qkz mdr post and have some (and pt03s) ordered for the shells. It was mentioned to me before to try *drilling* a port hole to the mx500 shell. So I have multiple options for different driver & shell combinations to try out.

Big fan of RY shop, I've used their MMCX sockets for some Koss mods I did before, as well as various cables and a pair of mx500 shells (which came with black tuning foams). I didn't consider using their replacement cable before as I planned on using MMCX sockets on all my builds.

Thanks for the tuning paper recommendation, glad a tuning paper sheet with all sizes is on Choice, this may be my last alix order until the dust settles on the tariffs.
