@ericpalonen I have a question. Will the HD660S be discontinued now that the ‘2’ is out?

I note that Sennheiser has never officially brought out a version 2 of a 6, 7, or 8 series headphone before (to my knowledge). I believe that the 660S was supposed to replace the 650 but that Sennheiser changed their minds about discontinuing the 650 due to popular demand for the 650 (or due to the horrified reaction of enthusiasts who saw the 660S as a sideways step at best).

So, what headphones will be in the Sennheiser 6 series line up now? Will they all continue, or will one or more of them be dropped?

The original 500 series all had a version 2, and the 480

Thanks. I should’ve been clearer that I meant their top of the line headphones....
The original 500 series were their top of the line, mid eighties to early nineties, with the HD540/II and 560/II being the top models. Then the mid nineties had a new 500 series, up to the 565, then things started to change with the 580. The 600 and 650 came next, followed by another 500 series, including the 590, which was an alternative to the 600/650 for a while

Yes, you’re quite correct. I’ve edited my original post!
And I should have known that my post as originally worded was inaccurate as I used to own some HD560 Ovation II’s! 😉

Wonder how these compare to the Neumann NDH-30...
I think that will be a very interesting comparison, especially as it seems that the price will be close. I expect that the Sennheiser will have a more consumer audiophile tuning compared to the Neumann’s professional monitor like tuning.

It was already confirmed in a different thread.

There is stock remaining at the dealer level in the product will continue to be supported with the two-year warranty from date of purchase, spare parts etc. Ultimately (in time) the original HD 660S is replaced by the HD 660S2. Those that prefer the 660S signature over the 660S2 signature should jump into the original without hesitation as it will be service and parts supported in the long term.
