Did Sennheiser just reveal the Orpheus successor?

Not every brand is like Oppo who offered PM-1 as a PM-2 (same performance cheaper materials).  The set at 10k is still a lot of money for this setup!

10k isn't expensive. Some people spend 100k+ on speakers.

Isn't a SR-009 setup also 10k?

If you're using a reference quality DAC and worthy amplifier then you can spend a little bit less.  Schiit Yggdrasil DAC for example is $2300, KGSSHV mini from Birgir is $3000 (full size $3300), SR-009 is around $3k from Japan.  $8300 or $8600.  But if you want one of the absolute best amps then you're looking at $4600 minimum (KGSSHV Carbon, BHSE + Alps RK50 is $2k more than this), putting you right around the $10k mark.

This Orpheus 2 will cost far more than an SR-009 setup though, but that goes without saying.

SR-009 is almost a sidegrade to the HD800 and it's more than 3 times the price, it also needs more complicated stuff to work.
Still can't match HD800's soundstage in some respects.

That said, HD800 costs at least 5 times the price of a trusty DT880/K702/HD600 (pick your flavour)
We all know that HD800 is better but not 5 times better.

What does expensive mean?

One is an electrostat, the other is a dynamic.  They're totaly different and shouldn't really be compared side-by-side.

Why not? They are both trying to achieve the same tasks.
Cleanly portray music, faithfully, top to bottom...
Maximize positional cues... You know, same tasks.

It's like diesel vs gasoline on Le Mans: different technology, each with its own pros and cons.
Nothing wrong putting both on the same track.

may be I missed it, but WHEN are the next "official infos" due to be released by Sennheiser about it ( full specs, price, avalability date, ....) ?

Think it's 11/3.

Surprised nobody has noticed the cable design yet.  Looks like typical wire as used for most headphone cables, which is notable because every modern electrostat uses a ribbon cable.  The purpose of the ribbon cable is to keep the capacitance as low as possible in order to make the headphone an easier load to drive for the amp.  If this isn't a temporary prototype cable, then this will be the first time an electrostatic HP hasn't used a ribbon cable since the 70s.

As a marketing director (which is my real job, sound engineer is a part time job-hobby), Sennheisser's marketing team was brilliant. Why? because they didn't say nothing about the product, only frequency response, and there is a nice thread on head-fi (the place where all that niche market for ultra expensive headphones is), with 62 pages of pure speculations...that's a massive win in my book.

They are playing with that, you guys don't know if the price will be 50K or 5K, because there isn't an official price announcement yet. It's a statement product, so is the best that they can do, but they make more money with cheap IEMs and the Momentum line in one month than selling all that new Orpheus (300 units for example) in one year.

There is a nice thread (battle of flagships) where the guy that reviews all the headphones places the Orpheus the #1 headphone in the world, above the Stax SR-009, which he ranked as #2. This is the new Orpheus, 24 years later, c'mon guys, this thing will wipe the floor with any other headphone on the market.

Ha. Ever notice that same guy has had his Orpheus for sale for a long time now with many price drops and will not come off his r-10 for over $10k. He's a great reviewer, maybe the best, but he still has his agenda's. Surprised you could not see through that one.
