Yo guys. One of the retailers near my area has the d5000 for $380 (tax included) and the D7000 for $500. The deal is on the weekend and for the 5000 there is a 30 day return policy. Do you think that's a good price?

Is it worth to pony up to the 7000?

Extremely good deals if you like what they have to offer.

I hope this is an indication that upgrades will be coming soon.

I would definitely pony up to the D7000. More refined without the bass encroaching on the mids...just a better headphone (especially for only an extra $120).

Absolutely a good deal to go for! Both are nice cans. You need a good source for them.

It's not a denon sale, it's the stores clearance sale :)

The guy I spoke to gave me a heads up because he was really secretive haha. I'm not sure whether I should go for these or maybe go for the ultrasone 780 ( or 900). Bass impact and comfortability are big for me. I tried the 5000 and they seem to have a lot more impact than the 2000's.

So what do you guys think?

For whatever it's worth, when I had the D7000 and Edition 9's, I preferred the sound from the Denons.  I felt the D7000's bass was as good as the 9's, but the D7Ks had a larger, more spacious sounding headstage.

Just my $.02.

Absolutely agree with this. I also think the midrange on the D7000 is not as recessed as the pro900s. But I did not try the Kees mod on the pro 900s. I loved Ultrasones before, but I returned the pro900 after 2 days.

EDIT: meant pro 900

So do you think I should go for the Ultra900's or the D7000 then?

Honestly...no brainer for me...D7000s. Mine compete with $1000+ headphones (oh that's right...MSRP is $999.99).

Not to mention I prefer them (by a good margin) over the Ed. 8s (which in turn, I prefer by a good margin to the Ultra900s).

If there were new D7000's available with a 30 day return policy and $500 out the door, I would definitely give them a listen.

I'd definitely go for it for $500. I gave them a short listen at a meet and thought they were very good but maybe didn't suit my tastes.

The bass on the D5000 can be considered bloated, not very well controlled and encroaching on the mids (when compared to the D7000s).

There is also more sparkle to the treble on the D7000s which is also very nice and the mids aren't as recessed (likely due to the improved bass).

Just get them already...$500 to try with 30 day trial on headphones that MSRP for $999.99 (and compete with the big boys very well)...a no brainer IMHO.
