I would never use the d2000/d5000 for traveling it's just stupid the cables are vey thick, stif, long.. They need decent amping and you'd look rediculous.

They don't need much amping and sound pretty good directly out of an MP3 player. The cable, however, would be a major PITA.

I find the d5000 to sound weak out of my clip+ they sound better out of my E5, and even better (close to being on its best) out of an e11

I don't have a Clip+, but they sound great out of my iPod Classic.

What denon have you got then? The d2000?

I had the D2000 but gave it to my dad, I've had a couple, actually. Now I have the D5000 and D7000 (which my wife has adopted).

is there a big diference between the d5000 and the d7000?

Look at Tyll's review on InnerFidelity.

I would have to beg to differ. IMO all three models sounds pretty average without amplification and stellar with appropriate juice. They certainly deserve more than HO of classic. Even if you use a cheap fiio amp, you will be rewarded.

I'm listening to my modded d7000 out of audio-gd Master 5 with my new Yulong D18 DAC and..... wow. I'm falling in love all over again.

I have several amps, ranging from $100 to several thousand $ (including one that can put out over 25W from the HP jack), and the Dx000 line is so easy to drive that, with regards to power, it makes very little difference what they're hooked up to.

such an erroneous statement on so many levels.
Since power isn't the only factor by any means, it actually does make a difference to what they are hooked up to.
Probably off topic enough already.
