Denon D7100?!

Frequency graphs are misleading and here is why

Compare the graphs between the D7100 and the Fostex TH-600 and even the 900 (looked pretty similar to the 600).  I've heard countless times the D7100 getting obliterated by the Fostex line of headphones.  I saw a bigger difference from the LCD3 vs D7100 graphs than from these.  By these graphs, if you were to listen to both headphones, the difference would be minuscule.  I have not listened to the Fostex line of headphones but by the "graphs" they should sound "almost" the same.  Certainly not to warrant the extra 1000 dollars I'd have to spend on them though.

That's why I followed up with first hand listening impressions.

You can't just read graphs. You have to trust your EARS!

I have, and the D7100s are poor compared to just about anything else in their class, let alone LCD-3s or HE-6s. A better alternative to the D7100s, much much better for the money, are the Fostex TH600s.

Well according to the praised frequency graphs...not by much... when it comes to comparing them again the TH-600.

The big difference is in THD and impulse response, those are substantial. That's where D7100's slow and muddy sound comes from.

Preaching to the choir. I was just making a joke.

The graphs pretty clearly indicate the prowess of an orthodynamic driver, and the poorly tuned D7100. A lot of people think that a FR graph will hep you 100% understand a headphone. The other portions of the graph are incredibly important.

The TH-600 does not use a planar magnetic driver bud.  Which is what I compared it to in that specific comment.

I was directly discussion the comparison of the two graphs for the LCD-3 and D7100.

I'll put the next two here for easy comparison

I'm not sure how the D7100 measures better than the TH600, or even comparable to the TH600 in technical aspects.

Ok clearly there is mis-communication or you are not reading my posts thoroughly.  I never stated the D7100 is better than the TH 600 or the TH 900.  I compared them and warranted that based on the graphs, they sound similar and do not warrant the extra cost especially when it comes to the TH 900.  Technical aspects? They both use a 50mm driver, housed in wood?  I don't understand what you meant by that last line.

Were you not implying that the D7100 were comparable to the TH-600 via comparison of the graphs?

And going off the measurements, the LCD-3s MOP THE FLOOR with the D7100s. Having heard both (I've owned the LCD-3s for a year and half), there is no comparison. Someone previously mentioned preferring the Beats Pro over them (D7100), and I gotta agree with them.

Yes I was.  Reread your post.  You started talking about the LCD3 vs D7100 then went on to TH 600.

I was alluding to MH's post listed above from the previous page, and then moving onto the TH600.

They don't sound similar, in any way. The TH-600s and 900s are much more clear and uncolored.

I don't know man looking at the graphs its a little difference. So I would have to spend another 1 grand getting the TH-900 because they are slightly less colored and clear..... This makes absolute perfect sense. Forgive me if I sound a bit arrogant.

That's pretty much your problem. I had to go up to the Liquid Fire to hear what the LCD-3s were about...and with a GS-X MKI, they really jumped. I wish I had gone with the Burson Soloist instead of the LF, but what are you gonna do.

The LCD-3s are a tough nut to crack in terms of proper amping/dac/source. They're really transparent and reveal what "issues" you have upstream, while the D7100/D7000 sound great out of almost anything.

1. I think you meant GS-X MKII (from your inventory)
2. Are you saying Burson Soloist is better than Liquid Fire ? How about Liquid Glass ? (That should save me lot of money)  ^ ^...
3. How about Liquid Glass vs GS-X MKII ? I am looking for a new headphone amp.

Thanks in advance Macedonian,.
