What would you say about recabling the Denons? Are the HFI 550's worth it in a sense that I don't have to recable them, whereas the Denons pretty much need a recable to get their full sound potential?

I wouldn't bother with cables. If there was any benefit to it, I would never know. There is much debate here about cables. I'm not sure if there is a problem with cables in the Denons but my Denon D7000 sounds phenomenal. I enjoy it far more than the Pro 900 that I just had the pleasure to listen to. Keeping my headphones balanced would be the only thing I would ever consider.
