Denon AH-D9200 - 2018 Flagship - Impressions Thread

Both are at a very similar level transparency to me, which makes the Denon better than any other closed can, IMO

Which would you say are the true closed back competitors to the Denon i.e the TOTL closed back headphones?

Audeze LCD-XC
Audeze LCD-2 Closed Back
Focal Stellia
Fostex TH-900
Sennheiser HD820

It seems the people that own the above and the Denon rack the Denon at least equal or even better in most aspects?

Mm..looking for cable replacements on the D9200, balanced with 2.5 mm and 4.4 mm. What did you guys settle on? Tia.

I was thinking of reterminating but I d rather have another set to complement the stock cables.

I ended up going to cosmic-cables.co.uk and bought their Neptune cable with the Eidolic connectors, cable was with me in 6 days and I'm
over the moon with it, it's expensive because of the Neotech silver wire but I like the detail it adds while making the music sound fuller, I'm
about 60 hours in and it just seems to get better.

I finally got the stax pads.
They look very spacious, angled, and luxurious.
So far, every pad I tried wasn't as optimal as the stock pad, so I will these as a last try.
Really have no complaints on stock pads.

So they sent me stax009 pads at $150US.

So there is positive and negative about these pads.
IMG_20191108_233129.jpg

**Plus**
They are the first and only pads I tried that did not alter the tonal balance hardly. Very slight less lower mids .
Bass was all there, and trebles a very slight more clear without being noticably brighter, but was a hint more.
Mids were very slightly tamed so the image was more spacious than stock and very slightly touch more relaxed or not as close.
Image was just as clear.
This is very important as nothing else but stock and ether electrostat pads were clear.
The Ether were not optimal as they leak bass.
The stax009 pads, on the other hand, do not leak any bass, which is rather shocking, given the larger opening size...
These are fantastic pads to bring the 9200 closer to the slightly more open Utopia image.

*** The negative***
IMG_20191108_233152.jpg
The slightly larger size..
Well, now that I have my perfect pad i(the stax009 pad), I have to figure out a way to keep the pads from slipping off(!)...
As they may, if pulled a bit, because they are a bit larger, so they are not a tight fit. They are a loose fit which remarkably does not loose bass, which I believe is due to the high quality of the leather...
Supple wonderful quality leather...
Better than the ether electrostat pads which were nice quality, but much stiffer...

There you go.
The only alternative pad that actually sounds great.
I probably will place some cloth tape inside to center it to the plastic ring..

i tried many dekoni pads, non are like stock pads, which sucks as i can not find a store that sells original pads , unless there is store please send me a link. i think stock are the only pads that nailed the sound of 9200

They are more different than similar. D9200 more reference and bright, can be a bit fatigue depending on your preferred signature. Z1R, warm bassy low end and depending on music can be boomy. Z1R is for me a more relaxed listening experience. D9200 more subbass less midbass and faster. I think the majority would pick the D9200 over the Z1R, the Z1R is very often love or hate. I've had mine for 3 years and still love it. But if I should be objective I would say that the D9200 is the better headphone and definitely up there amongst the best closed back for "only" 1500 USD :)

Thats garbage and mid fi

You always have a very polite way of expressing yourself :). And to be clear I don't mind it but some does!
