Denon AH-D7000

Probably, yeah. Electronics Expo is an authorized dealer for Denon, so they (most likely) have some specific things they have to meet, including minimum prices. Open box items are probably not bound by this, so they open them so they can sell them as as "open box" for the price they want.

This is all speculation, though.

I asked a lot of questions about the "Like New" when I ordered mine. The salesman could see that I wasn't sure about going through with it, so he offered me a brand new pair for the open box price. Then he knocked another $10 off for good measure.

"Open box" is a way for dealers to get around MAP policy.  Some manufacturers are strict to the point of pulling their entire line if MAP is violated.

Graphicism, how are you liking the Denons? I know they are considerably different than the 880s.

Not sure they have good synergy with amps that add warmth for me, so your darkvoice (which I assume does just that) may make them a bit too warm/muffled?

They're alright... I had heard them several months ago along with a T1 that I considered my natural upgrade path, needless to say I wasn't that impressed with the T1 and the D7000s had my attention. Considering I didn't like the D2000s it was a nice surprise. I've been finding myself listening to more electronic genres lately and while I still consider the DT880 a better all-rounder the D7000s provide that additional bottom end.

I actually have a (borrowed) Graham Slee Solo which I don't find much of an improvement over my Zero DAC/amp hybrid which is dwarfed by the Darkvoice... maybe I'm just used too it or like that warmer sound but with the right tubes it mates really well. I think it's easy to dismiss an amp like the 336 because in it's time it was only $200~ish but I've had $1,000 tube amps and it more than holds it's own.

I find the D7000s more similar to my DT880 setup than you might think; they're both quite bright and resolving and a warmer amp tones down the highs to my liking.

So yeah, they're alright
wink.gif
and while my electronic binge continues I'll keep them around!

That's cool. Kinda like how I consider the Q701 better all-rounders. I hated the K701, but love the Q701 which brings back memories of my DT880, fyi), but since I mainly listen to electronic genres, the D7000 is just perfect.

They always 'refresh' their stock of new in open box Denons. Again, proof to me that they just take them out of their new stock.

I think the concern is that people order a new D7000, open them up and replace the drivers with some from the D2000s and send them back. Electronics Expo would see that the headphone looks untouched and sell them as an open box...

Yes this happens to lot of people, used or open box I don't trust them.
