Denons like the JVCs are quite heavilly coloured... People that are looking for the most transparent sound possible is not that interested in those. Not that strange really. They are also closed headphones on top of that. Even though the Denons are essentially open since they leak so much

I exposed a friend to the world of headphones. he cursed me as he spent a ton and bought an ultra micro dac and amp and denon 5000's from headroom. he brought them over for a listen and I was blown away and realized immediately that I needed the d7000's (profile is more of what I prefer than the 5000's). dang. I thought I was done spending money. I've been perfectly satisfied with my setup for a long time. that changed when I realized how different the denon's sounded compared to my hd600's. and how much I needed them. I've spent (wasted) so much time over the last week thinking about these headphones that I finally decided that I had to just buy them so i could get some work done. They are on their way.....

Bwahahahahaha! I'm about a week behind you! Ordered mine today. Thanks for your help. Funny, I just got curious about the Denons a few months ago, and finally talked myself into a used pair of D5000's. I really like them, and was really planning to Markl them. The more I listened and read, the more I decided the D7000's were the better path for me. Fingers crossed I'm right. I'll try and keep the D5000's long enough to A/B them, though I may just post them to FS. I have a pair of J$ pads on the D5000's that are a nice sonic and comfort addition. They will make the move to the D7000's. I can't wait!

The images are fixed now. Also some of the images that you find here are part of the mod (except the closed mod, that is optional...).

I disagree with the statement that the 7000's are "Extremely Colored" IMHO all headphones are colored. I would certainly agree that the 7000's are not as fast and transparent as the 800's, but they are not exactly veiled either. If they were speakers I'd equate the 7000's with something like Pro Ac's or maybe Dynaudio's whereas I'd equate HD-800's with something like Avalons or maybe Logans.

The 7000's strengths are dynamics and harmonic structure, with exceptional bass quality.

The 800's strengths are speed and transparency with better imaging than most headphones (Although imaging is still mediocre compared to just about every decent speaker system)

A new D7000 are more colored (more bass) - after a longer period (more than 200 hours) of burning in they are more and more neutral.
