les_garten why don't you host a mini-meet. I will bring two modded Denons both w/ the MarkL Mods and a pair of Bubinga V4 wood cups. One started life as a D2000 and it also has a re-cable by Bryan of Zynsonic, the other started as a D5000 w/ the stock cable.

Go for it and let us know. Did you compare tapered vs. non tapered ear pads? What was the result- more specifically, what did tapering do to the sound?
Tim

Hi Miguel,
I'm slammed with a house sale and a Move presently. Of course I'm behind on everything! That would be a blast for sure. Next time there's a big S. FL meet maybe I'll be free. I'm sure I could come up with something someone would want to listen to!

I will def mod some d2ks to accompany d7k, the reason the mids sound more forward on the D5k to me is that the bass bleeds a little bit into the midrange, giving it weight and thus more apparent.

Id like to add a little something...I was arguing some very fine points between the 2 headphones.

I would like to add this:

Denon 7000=markl 5000>every other headphone i have owned>left side of a HD800 for the same price>every iem including e530, um3x>nearfield desktop speakers of the same price range>HT speakers>listening to my wife bitch about something

If you are looking to spend $550 street on some headphone - I highly recommend rushing out and buying a pair of 7000s.

My AH-D7000's are currently with Moon Audio being re-cabled balanced. Moon Audio's cables are excellent, however since I am a Cable importer I'm having them use my cables. The cables that I'm using retail for more than the headphones themselves, but that's just the way that I roll.

I'm looking forward to getting them back. So far no ETA from Drew at Moon Audio. The last time I re-cabled like this it was more than worthwhile. It turned a pair of sony MDR-SA5000 a good but bright headphone into one of the best sounding headphones that I've ever heard. I wanted to give a friend a special gift, so I gave my Re-Cabled SA5000's to him. I don't regret giving them to him (Because I wanted the gift to be special), but I sure as hell miss those Sony's. At some point I will replace them, but for now I impatiently wait for my 7000's to come home to Papa.
