Thanks Les. Given that I don't know what "heat soaking the pads" means, I might be at a disadvantage. I will look into it. I am handy but inexperienced with this type of work.
I aggree the cable isn't very ergonomic, it twists way too much at this price point. Moon Audio will do it for me for $50 above the cost of a new cable which almost seems worth it (as he intended it I'm sure).
My D7000's have about 30 hours on them and they are sounding really nice, a noticeable improvement over the D5000- more details are heard, tighter bass, not earth shattering but there- I have been A/Bing them. Would I pay $999 for them, no, but at $550 ($180 more than I paid for the D5000), absolutely. If I listened with the D5000 and an hour later I listened with the D7000, I might not know the difference, but quick changes make the differences obvious to my ears.

I did mine, I could help you out on the phone with any pointers. The cautionary deal is to be very careful with the screws. They are screwed into either plastic or wood and will strip easily. Have the proper tools, take your time and don't get in a hurry. Heat soak means to get your soldering done in about one second of contact time so heat application is minimal.

I've found a skilled technician to recable my 7000's, so I'm shipping them out today. I'll likely be without them for at least a couple of weeks. I was actually sad while boxing them. The true measure of how much you like a product is how it makes you feel when you have to send it away

I'm still weighing whether I'll have the Lawton Audio (MarkL) mod done. I think I'll see how they respond to my uber recable before I make any decision.

Signing off - Headphoneless

Adding the Dynamat is very easy and took me about 1 hour without matting the entire driver frame (partially and the cups) to my D5000's. I had never done anything like this before. I did not like the cups matted as I felt it made them a little too bright and I removed that.

for future reference, Head-Fi usually likes to let people search the for sale forums for themselves. It helps keep the individual thread subject on track. But good luck anyway. I posted an opinion in an EQ thread at the same time I had one for sale. It was all I could do to not plug my sale, but I managed

Thanks Boomy & understood.

I've stuck a link in my signature now which will help where ever I post. I don't suspect they will be up for sale long as there is already a lot of interest. They are everything people say they are and IMO probably one of the best phones ever made, just not for me.

Got my Denon AH7000 today very nice headphone. To bad I can't listen to it as I got the wrong adapter from best buy, mono 1/4 to 3.5mm.

My source is the computer and ipod can't plug the AH7000, still waiting for the phoenix with the new back panel to be shipped.

akg702 - nice pictures! Those better represent what the 7000's look like than any stock photo I've seen from Denon. Absolutely beautiful.

Well, family commitments have been keeping me from doing any meaningful listening but I did squeeze in a whopping 15 minutes last night. All I can say is that, based on initial listening, I might have found my go-to 'phone. I've always suspected I was a closed-phone guy (although I do love the open presentation) and the 7000's with the WA6SE and 840C sounded like an awfully magic combination listening to Josh Garrels and Blue Rider Trio last night.

I can't wait for some more time with them!

Has anyone just done the Taper Mod on their D7000s and if so, what are the changes in sound? I've been burning in mine unmodded with a combo of songs and pink noise. I'm still hoping for and waiting for the highs to back off some. I've been doing some A/B'ing between Pico and Pico feeding WA6 + Sophia. I can't say for sure what I'm preferring. I think I feel like the WA is adding even more treble energy than the Pico direct. If the highs will settle in for me a tad these will be great phones. I probably only have about 30 hours on them so far so I know they will need more time. Any help on what the Taper Mod will do to the sound would be appreciated!

After two days without my 7000's I'm going through what amounts to withdrawal. I hope that the recable is worth it. I'm convinced that the 7000's don't get the credit that they deserve. They are absolutely in the small bunch of elite headphones.

The AH-D7000's are definetly in my top three headphones in current production. I haven't heard the HD-800's yet, although based on descriptions of its sound I think its probably a different flavor so its not likely to dislodge the 7000's from their current place in my heart.

If you know someone with the D5000s, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the differences.

I think tim3320070 has both. After receiving the D7000 he put up the D5000 for sale (now withdrawn). Per his impression, the D5000 is about 90% of the D7000. I'm not sure it was modded though. He would be better able to provide a review.

Thanx, I forgot his post on that.
