Denon AH-D7000

What cable do you have on your Denon?  And how does it compare to your HE-6?  Been meaning to ask you that.

Sold my Zeus cabled D7000 - OCC (Wireworld Eclipse 6 - 4x22awg) 3-pin XLR Balanced XLR to make way for the HE-6. I miss the Sub Bass on the D7000 like no other. But the mids on the HE-6 brought me new frontier. The moment I put on Al Jarreau it was over!

i've thought about picking up the he-6, though i'm not sure i want to go down the road of amp-matching again. i used to have the k1000 and it was great listening to it, but i hated having a dedicated power amp to power it. i know the he-6 requires a lot of juice like the k1000...

the mids on the alpha dogs are pretty good - better than the d7000 -  but the d7000 are more fun to listen to.

Gimme back my D7000. The aformentioned is an example of how sometimes lust lacks manners.

I could listen to the D7000 for hours...often did overnight!

The HE-6 has been my favorite cans for a long time. I have found so few others that do as much for me musically as these. The D7k are a very close second, but can not match the open transparency and definition / speed of the HE-6.
The two main detractors for the HE-6 (for me) are the power suck and lack of comfort.
Between the lush sound (warm, rich low end and brilliant highs), and the amazing comfort... not to mention the ease of driving... the D7k are the best I own, and close to the best value I've seen.

I'm actually pretty fond of the D7k's cable. Strong, good build quality, can handle day-to-day office use, no kinking that I've ever experienced, and it still looks the same as it did on day 1. I actually wish I could buy an extra one and make some decent cables for my LCD-2's with them.

The Denon sound signature thus far is the best fit for my liking, with over 40 headphones owned or auditioned.  Have not heard HE-6's but since comfort is close to the top requirement for me I won't buy them.  Might audition them if/when I get a chance since they sound to be amazing, and out of the Spec system I'd love to try them.

When I look at my headphone list, the MD7000 is untouchable as is the TH900.  Both will likely always survive the cuts.  Between the sound sig and the comfort, hard to top.

To my 52 year old ears it's too close to call, and at roughly double the price it's a value proposition.

My TH900's are at Lawton audio getting Marks treatment so maybe that will push them over the top. I'll know in a week or so.

Looks like you have both. What do you think? Is your D7000 stock?

Sorry I don't have MD7000, mine is just plain stock D7000, I feel TH900 little bit clear and better base but recently I modified D7000 with alpha pads and changed everything into balanced with copper interconnects from source to amp, the result is too much bass for my taste. :frowning2: (Will get pure silver cables soon).

When I listen to classic and vocal pop I don't find Denon/Fostex as good as HD800, (never liked Audeze).
So I am seeking another closed headphone like T5p or ED8, (no Audeze LCDXC) I personally don't like the heavy and uncomfortable headphones. :)

I was wondering if I should modify D7000 to MD7000, just wanted to get an idea how D7000 can be close to stock TH900. I get bored with just one headphone :)

I didn't like Alpha pads on my Lawton modded D7000, at least not as well as his angle pads. Doing the damping mods made a big improvement to me, no exaggeration. It was like a different headphone. I'd do the mod, as I think you'd notice the difference for sure.

I had Edition 8, and liked them a lot for comfort and sound. Just a little bass light to me.

Ya I don't really like alpha pads, too thick and too much angled but it's the cheapest replacement pads I can get here in Canada.

My friend has ED8 and I feel it's much clear and more detail than D7000 IMO, next week I will audition T5p and get one of the two :)

Thanks for you help !
