Refined luxury flaps
The best headphones are not suitable for portable players, but Denon has made an exception in the anniversary model, the A100, which marks the Denon 100-year anniversary.

One associates like earplugs with portable players, but it's not everyone who feels that a plug in each ear is a very comfortable way to listen to music. Therefore, many headphones, which admittedly takes more space, but that may be more comfortable to wear on your head over time. Lightweight headphones like the classic Koss PortaPro is a cheap and good solution. But they are open and sounds delicious, both in and out, then the Denon AH-D510 or Shure SRH240 be a better choice. When you get closed, compact earmuffs and even better sound. While the mute outside noise better.

When one has good sound in your ears when you're on the go, to 600-700 million. But there are always some that are even more picky on sound quality. Such as not blink to spend hundred Euro on large headphones. For home use. For outdoor use, the selection of large headphones severely limited. This is because the expensive headphones are designed for headphone amps to sound good. Besides, they are often too large, heavy and especially heavy powered (low sensitivity - high resistance) to an iPod can get sound in them.

Denon's most expensive headphones, the D5000 and D7000 NOK 6,000 to $ 10,000 is definitely not suitable for portable players. These are headphones for connoisseurs and only for home use. An easier and less expensive model called the D2000 to 3000, however, well suited, but they are large, and 350 grams heavy.

Perfect for portable
The option can be found in the AH-A100 4000 respectively. As is the anniversary model in Denon headphone series. Here you get the same sterling quality as the more expensive models, but in a more compact and much lighter package than D2000 which it related. The weight is moderate 195 grams, and the closed ear cups on the A100 - in mahogany must know - is far more compact than D2000/5000/7000, but still covers well around the ears. The headphones come in a box with fabric lined interior marked with Denon anniversary logo.

The ear cushions are made of synthetic leather and adds nicely rounded ears, while the low weight makes them ideal for portable use. With a sensitivity of 101 dB and low resistance of 32 ohms, they can be used successfully on most portable players. Denon has kept a relatively short cable of 1.3 meters, but there is an extension cable of 2.2 meters which is handy to have when you plug in the A100 amp at home.

Sound Quality
With low weight and moderate pressure on the head is the A100 very comfortable. They take up little space when they put in a bag, the bells can be rotated so that they can be packed flat. Inside the Denon has used 50 mm membranes, driven by small, powerful neodymiummagneter, and the house as mentioned in enclosed mahogany clocks.

4000 is a lot for a pair of headphones, but I am inclined to conclude that the Denon A100 is worth every penny. It is not certain that they are substantially better than D2000 which costs less, but they are far more convenient, and despite its size, provides the dynamic and potent bass-like ear cups were much larger than they are. The cello of Antony and The Johnsons version of Dylan's classic Knockin 'On Heaven's Door, often drowning in the sound on many headsets. Not here, where the shredding of the resin on the thick strings are highly instrumental in giving the instrument striking realism. The headphones do not shame on electric bass or drums either. With massive weight and body reproduced in drums Sades The Moon And The Sky, so that one feels ear cushion massage the scalp.

It does not shame the vocals either. Englestemmen to Alison Krauss or gravel vocals of Townes Van Zandt is rendered with a sparkling rally where almost every little detail, and the faintest breath appears as the clock clear in the warm generous sound. That is balanced, open and then stripped of all sorts of faults that it is null and void to put your finger on.

Denon AH-A100 is a stunning music conveys, whether it's an iPhone or a multi-million pound amplifier to drive headphones. Detailed Judgement is brilliant, while sound is homogeneous and rich. With potent bass and compact, lightweight earmuffs, they are in many ways the perfect compromise. Refined sound in high-end class, wrapped in gorgeous woodwork - and so good that not only want them to, with those can be anywhere

Still this is a hell of a can, extraordinary as always and then.... Any contender in this size/price?

My library is mostly digital. I've learned that you need to listen to the files instead of relying on the bitrate for quality. Many times, you get a 320 file that sounds like 128, and other times you get a 192 that sounds like 320. I don't really know why this is, I guess sometimes people make a good rip from a bad source or viceversa.

With my old headphones I couldn't hear much difference, depending on the music, but now I can in each test I made, the AH-100 are very detailed.

It is literally not possible in a true double blind listening test to tell the difference between an MP3 at 320kbps and a FLAC version of the recording, even if you're using the highest end headphones you can imagine and testing a panel of audiophiles.  Unless you're using a really badly made encoder with some huge bug at 320kbps there's no way you could tell if you didn't already know which one is which (placebo effect).  If you don't believe me make a long playlist (like 20 plays) of the same song in MP3 and FLAC (i.e. 10 times in MP3 and 10 times in FLAC), shuffle the playlist without looking at the result, turn off your computer monitor and listen to the song 20 times while writing down whether you think it's FLAC or MP3.  You won't be right anything close to every time unless there's something seriously wrong one of your encoder or decoders.  They've tested people who claimed to be able to hear the difference before and every time it's a real blind test people have failed miserably.
I mean the placebo effect is actually enough to make symptoms of disease go away or feel better, so just knowing that one file is the lossless is more than enough to make you think that it sounds better.

I just got a pair of these.  I am surprised by the positive reception on this thread, I respectfully disagree.  I'd rank the closed, portables that I have owned or had extensive experience w/

edition 8>Thunderpants>>modded denons>D5>D7>Pro 900>D2>Dt1350=DT770>>>Denon A100>>Sennhd25 1-II> ATh M50s> D1100

These headphones get alot of points for being small, beautiful, and comfortable, but sq wise they really don't impress me.  They lack detail, poor dynamics, soundstage average, highs are harsh, mids decent, and bass lacks extension relative to headphones in their price range.

I'd say if you can compromise on size or comfort just a little, there are alot of options for cheaper that are better.

So much for blowing D5000 out of the water. OP looks like a huge fail now.

No, I don't think so. There can be huge differences in different people's perception of sound. And there is a lot of reasons for that. I don't even bother to argue. You should know.

Thread starter was excited about these cans straight out of an ipod, but was not impressed with d5000 driven through some stationairy equipment. He thinks the a1000 blows the d5000. And he buys one immediately! Nice thing to know. Also a nice thing to know, that not everyone feels that way about these cans. These things are very subjective. You should know.

Only one who fails, is you.

Its the same driver and very similar sound as the d1100.  Do you also prefer the d1100 over the d5000?

Quote:
I own both and yes the it does blow the D5000 out of the water. So the D5000 was sold.

Any advice for a A100 virgin?

If you like it more than the dt770, pro 900, thunderpants, and d2k... I would consider buying the d1100, it sounds almost the same to me and its pretty cheap

Well, I've had these for about a year now. I will say that I'm not going to invest in dynamic ones anymore in near future. These little beauties are excellent at detail retrieval along with nice mids and excellent articulated bass. They aren't similar to 1100 as the driver is an advanced and more refined according to tech specialist at Denon. 1100 have few similarities but these don't sound like other Denons. And finally if you care less about carrying an amp along they are really good even without one. But they bring out all the best qualities about your source, amp and even the DAC.
