Hi Guys!


I was wondering if wired headphones like SRH940 ,AKG K550 ,DT660 with $100-$200 dac would sound much better than the wireless $500 Dali io-6 . If so, what closed back headphones and dac would you recommend for classical music in similar price range?


I'm a music student so detail is my prior concern (for analysing harmonies , various voicing sections , articulation... ) ; and I normally listen at middle volume for ear health so I wouldnt need the ones that specialized in producing very loud sound.

I think the open back ones wouldn't suit me as the vicinity of my apartment is quite noisy.

I think that the Dali IO-6 Wired will work as well as the gear youblisted, provided that you can get sound with the ANC turned off. This DAC/amp will work well, especially when you get hi-res recordings to study, but see if you can get an extra remote as a backup:

If this place will let you try this in their store, then check out the Sony MDR-CD900ST and consider putting some sheepskin leather oval ear pads for them:

If you can try these in their store, also check out the AKG K545 (oval ear pads and large headband covering linked above will work with these) and Sony MDR-SA1000 (long discontinued) and consider buying both as the K545 during daytime and SA1000 for nighttime:

If you are going to receive some extra cash soon from a stipend, paycheck, inheritance, etc., and/or you can sell your Dali IO-6 to further advance your musical career, then you can get a Topping DX3Pro plus (has more headphone output power than the DX3Pro V2 above) and some used HD800 near you (face-to-face meet and cash only):
