Larger pieces of meteorite are used for watch faces and other commercial purposes. A few swords have been made from the stuff too.

I think using a small bit for each IEM isn't a big deal.

These guys make beautiful IEMs. Please try to use Mokume-Gane for faceplates!

Meteor is a lot less rare than people think. The Earth has been bombarded by them on and off for many billions of years. Furthermore, use of meteor material for things like watch faces and (now) IEMs involves VERY thin and small slices of the original rock.

So yeah, I don’t think I’d characterize it as “tasteless,” so much as “mildly exotic.” Like an emerald or a ruby.
